Built-in Microwave Oven Over Cooktop

Our 2+ year microwave oven is already "toast." The repairman said the same thing happened to him and thinks it's due to steam from cooking destroying the electronics. Is this typical?

    It can be.

You should always have the hood vent fan on when you cook on the stove top.

Please reply back with your brand and model number and let us know what your specific trouble is so we can help you with getting it fixed.

Door spring on build in microwave oven

Is this a combination built-in oven with microwave on top? And is this microwave one in which the door opens downward like a regular oven? If so, then this is a common problem for this oven/microwave combo, but replacing the spring is not a job for amatures. It takes a professional 45 minutes typically to do this job. It involves removing trim pieces, removing screws that hold the microwave oven in place, pulling the microwave out a couple of inches, and taking the door apart to get to the 2 torsion-bar springs. Replacing them is quite tricky, as is re-assembling the door. I recommend calling Sears Service (1-800-469-4663) to get a seasoned repairman to come out and fix your oven/microwave. Cost will probably be between $180 to $200.

My microwave oven just stopped cooking. The light comes on and the Motor is running, but much louder than normal.

The magnetron in your microwave has probably gone out. The magnetron is the part of the microwave oven that produces microwaves. If you unit is a built in model, it will likely cost more to fix than a new one. Same thing goes for a countertop unit.

With all due respect, what are you doing to it?
If you use it with nothing in the cavity, that will kill the magnetron otherwise it will last for years and years.
Very unusual and Bosch is a well respected name.
If there is a probem with the oven, Bosch will replace it so take it up with Bosch.

It could have an internal fuse. If you have the manual check and see if there is any mention of one. If you don't have the manual do an on-line search using the make & model # of you unit.

Emerson microwave oven model number MW8115SS

You don't state how old your oven is, or if you tried other food items afterwords. I also assume you inspected for foreign metal objects in the oven? If it does this whenever you attempt to cook in it, then it sounds as if your oven may have a wave guide cover malfunction or burned area. This part can be replaced by the consumer in most cases, but only after consulting with a trained technician or your parts supplier.
