I feels there is a problem with the docking connection. No sound unless I pull the ipod forward about 1/4 to 1/2 " then it connects and works ok. Docking connector appears firm. I have three of these purchased cheaply as the owners thought they didnt work when I knew they would if pulled forward. All are in immaculate condition. It is clearly a generic fault with this model. Is there a simple DIY fix so they can be just docked normally .? Logitech have not replied to my quiery.

I experienced the same problem. It's obviously a fault that altec lansing are aware of; I e-mailed them and within days they said they would be sending out a new one - no questions asked and they don't even want the old one back!

I just got one used - which was billed as working fine but I got it and had the same problem - Ipod Classic or Nano needs to be pulled forward in order for it to connect with the Ipod. I can't tell if it's with the unit itself or a poorly designed connection that doesn't hit the right parts inside the Ipod - but it's definately the unit - 2 Ipods have the same problem.

My temporary "fix" was to use my leather Ipod classic case and wedge it between the Ipod and the im600. That gave just enough room - abou 1/2 inch - but it was soft enough and I could position it so it didn't block the IR for the remote.

I may try to buy some black or dark gray insulation material with a sticky back to it and attach it, a little bit at a time to build it up so that it has a support that positions it correctly, Kindof like creating a seat cushion to prop it forward.

If anyone else has a good fix let's hear it

IM600 Compatibility: iPod mini; iPod classic 3G, 4G, 5G, 5.5G, 6G; iPod nano 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G; iPod touch 1G, 2G; auxiliary input connects to any CD, DVD, or MP3 player using a stereo mini-plug. If you have a mini-plug port on the IPhone which I believe you have; then attach a male to male plug in between the two devices. Take to Radio Shack for correct line plug.

My Altec Lansing Inmotion used to charge my Ipod Touch, but since yesterdag (after not using it for 3 weeks) it won't charge my Ipod anymore. The Altec charges itself, but somehow the Ipod doesn't. It is...

That is a tough one. Is your iPod fully seated -- will it play music in the im600? Have you tried a different iPod in the im600 to see if it charges? Does your iPod recharge normally in other players, in a wall charger and your computer? If not, your iPod could possibly need a new battery.
Also: since it was unplugged for 3 weeks, you may just need to run the im600 through a full cycle or two (let the FM radio play until the battery is dead, with no iPod in it), then recharge the im600 for 5 or 6 hours, and THEN mount your iPod into it and see if it charges it. Be sure to unplug/plug-in the adapter into the im600 to ensure it is getting full power from the wall outlet. One last thing: the im600 will only charge the iPod when it is plugged into AC power; it won't charge the iPod while it's running on its own battery power. Good luck!

5th generation iPods hose up while using Altec Lansing IM600

Yes, the docking station is damaging the iPod. The vibration when used load is causing damage to the iPod. If you notice, the iPod will only freeze when it is playing load in the docking station. To avoid the problem, you'll need to play the music at a lower sound with less vibration. Once I began to play my music at more reasonable sound levels, I discontinued the problem. Very disappointing solution...but it is the answer. I too called Altec Lansing. They are not aware of this issue...I told them to search the internet - it's all out there.

Hi I have a Altec Lansing InMotion iM9 Stereo for my ipod and it comes with a port for an ipod in the back, i assumed that it would play my computer audio threw it but does nothing. What should i do?

This may be obvious, but have you plugged your computer audio output into another speaker to make sure it works? You have to make sure you turn the iM9 volume up as well as the volume on your PC audio. The AUX input "mixes" with iPod audio, so you can leave the iPod in the dock, however, you should turn it off when playing music through the AUX port.
