The BIOS is an interface between the hardware and the software, and it also contains basic testing for all components (POST). If the computer doesn't pass the BIOS phase it will not work at all !!!

Can u enter into the BIOS settings ? Do a BIOS reset, by shorting the proper jumper (see user manual) or by removing the BIOS battery for 5 seconds and then reinsert it (in the same position + to + and - to - !!!)

i don't know what u mean by a recovery ?!

Do the linux test if u can ! because if it works all u nead is a SO reinstall .... if not ... u can test the harddrive and memories on an another copmuter, and if they are good but the comp still doesn;t work something is damaged and u;ll have to get it to a service or replace the component ....

Want to reset to Factory Default

When the computer is just starting up, press the 'delete' button. That will take you to 'setup'. Go thru that to find your 'reset to default', it may be in more place than one. It would be really good if you could get the install disks for your computer, then you could do a re-install of Windows. That will get rid of everything but Windows, so if you want anything else, you will need that disk too.

I cant get factory settings on my computer My hard drive wont work properly Ihavent got any memory.Computer very slow Please explain in laymans terms Obliged

1. Factory settings on computer.
There really isn't "factory settings" to reset. Well it isn't simple as that. There is the BIOS which can be reset to "default settings" for the BIOS. Also most brand name computers come with a recovery feature, in which you can recovery/restore the computer back to original factory defaults with original software all installed. Therefore the computer's operating system (usually windows) will be running with the programs like it would run if you were to buy the same new laptop.

2. Hard drive won't work properly.
You can give the hard drive a test using the hard drive's company's hard drive testing software which can be download from their site. The software would test the hard drive to make sure nothing physical is wrong and the hard drive is functioning like normal.

3. Haven't got any memory. Computer very slow.
You can always buy more memory. If windows says it's running out of memory. That means there is too many software running in the background.

Comment if you want more explained.

- BIOS not BIO :)

- all computers, laptop/desktop/server..etc ... have a small battery, that helps keep the settings in BIOS as the user changed them !

- u;ll have to go through u're motherboard user manual to see exactly where the bios reset jumper is ! If u don't have the manual, u will see the battery (is a round and flattened 1.5 cm battery...u cant miss it, is the only one in the computer) somewhere on the motherboard (ussualy in the lower right part of the motherboard). You just have to remove it for 5 seconds or so (force it out of the soket it is in) and then replaceit back. By doing this all the BIOS settings go to the manufacters default settings...
