It's broken --- call Sunbeam customer service (888) 264-9669 and have your receipt and serial number ready. They are aware that these have faulty switches in them.

Since the set seems to recover somewhat, Id look for poor sonnections first rather than defective components. If you can solder and arecomfortable working inside the set, you may be able to fix this yourself. Are there any other symptoms other than just shutting down? For example, blinking standby lights?
