I'm trying to install an older model alpine cd player in my boat. When I attached the red wire without attaching the yellow wire I don't get power to the unit, when I attached the red and yellow...

The red wire will be for constant power and the yellow wire will be for your accessories power. If you dont have accessories you will have to hook it up as you have said. To power the unit off, there should be a power button in the top left area of the unit. Hold that button down for a few seconds and it should turn off.

Can I hard wire an IPOD connection to a Alpine CDE 7856

There are 1/8"(headphone cable) to rca cables available at Radio Shack, Best Buy, Walmart, etc.... If you have an open pair of RCA's female connections coming out the rear of your deck plug your rca male to 1/8" male into that then into your IPOD.

Why wont cds i make with my computer play on my alpine cde 7856????

OFTEN the CD's haven't been "finalized" by the computer which is needed for many of the players. If the program offers up the option to add further songs to the CD, it is NOT finalized.

You MIGHT also try using the "music" type CD's to record on... They are more expensive but Staples sells them.
