This could be a problem with the optical filter module or the scaler module. since these modules are not chaep (over $400 each), I'd suggest that you get a repair estimate. This is not a problem that is likely to be correctly diagnosed remotely. Since this is a plasma set, it should be worth the estimate fee.

Keep us posted.

Of the vertical line is stationary, suspect the panel. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Viewing it in "Mosaic" or "Magazine" will make surf easy Pull up older posts. Surf the site with patience. Screen-shots to defective LCD are given. You can see and compare to that ot your TVs', and can make sure about the fault to an extent.

Toshiba 42HP 84 Black verticle line -- 1 inch thick and running from almost center vertically down to middle of screen

Just repaired one of these with the same fault. at the bottom of the plasma panel you will see a row of ribbon connectors, on the back of the ribbon connectors are some surface mount components. resolder these components on the offending connector, clean the contacts on the ribbon connector and reconnect. unfortunately getting to the connectors is quite a job, so give yourself plenty of time. if this doesn't cure the fault then the poor connection is on the plasma panel which you cannot repair, the only option then would be to replace the panel.
Let me know if you require further assistance.

Vertical strip of flashing horizontal lines on Acer Aspire 7551G screen

More than likely it's the lcd screen and will have to be replaced. I could be the video card, but most likely the lcd screen especially when you can put pressure on the screen and cause changes. To isolate the problem try connecting another monitor to the computer. Borrow a monitor from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker and connect it to the laptop. If the Borrowed monitor displays ok, then the problem is with your lcd screen and the video card is ok. If the Borrowed monitor displays the same as your lcd screen then the problem is with your video card inside the computer.

Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can be any kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vga cable to connect to your computer's vga port. If so that proves your video card is ok. The video will show on most systems when you reboot without you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correct key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key will normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

Once you narrow it down to the lcd screen as being the problem you might try taking the lcd screen apart to reseat the lcd cable on the back at the top of the lcd. Just unplug it and plug it back into the connector. You can also try doing the same where the lcd cable plugs into the motherboard. Just pull it out and put it back.

My picture is doubled on my toshiba TN50V71 as if there is a shadow behind everything? Please help!

hi, sounds like a convergence issue. try this...
  • Look through your manual. Your manual will always give you the most specific directions for your particular model. Look for an "adjusting convergence" or "set manual convergence" section.

  • Enter the menu on your TV. Use the remote control and bring up the menu.
  • Choose "Convergence." This may be under "Picture Settings," "Function" or "Advanced Options."
  • Select a color. You will have red, green and blue to choose from. Do each one, starting with red.
  • Press "Enter." A crosshair pattern will appear on your screen.
  • Adjust vertically. If there is a horizontal red line visible, press the up or down arrow keys (or channel up or down) to adjust the convergence until the line is superimposed on the horizontal-center line of the white crosshair.
  • Adjust horizontally. If there is a vertical red line visible, press left or right (or volume up or down) to adjust horizontally. Do this until the line is superimposed on the vertical line of the white crosshair.
  • Save settings. It is important to save your settings when you are done, instead of simply exiting the menu.
  • Repeat these steps for all colors.
    good luck!

Intermittant vertical black bars on 42HP84

there is a good chance that I can solve your problem, although for me and others this problem usually shows itself as black bars that go from top to bottom, not just half way.  go to the following link and read the entire thread, it is very good info.  I have done this and it worked perfectly on a gateway plasma, but it also works on numerous others.  there is a guy on ebay that sells a fix for $80, and it appears to be exactly what i did.

    White lines on screen

im sorry my friend I do not understand what a funny marrior is? LOL If your complaining about white lines at only the top of the picture, then I would say that your problem is with the vertical sweep circuit. Most likly a capacitor in the vertical preamp really small ones next to the jungle IC or the capacitors that are used as waveshapers in the vertical drive and output. If the entire screen is white lines then the screen drive is too high so back it down till the lines just disapear. if that wont turn down, theres a filter cap on the sweeop supply or the CRT socket board is bad. Good Luck
