Remove dist cap and rotor, under the rotor there is a control module (its about 1/4" tall, 1" wide, and 2-2 1/2" long) remove the module and take it to a parts store and have it tested. If its bad replace it and put dist back together and try starting it again. if thats not it then have coil check. Oh ya before you take anything apart disconect battery.

1997 Chevy k1500 5.7 vortex, change pcm cap rotors wires plugs coil modular, no spark, is the fuel pump related to this by chance

Fuel pump is a seperate system, unless it is a security fault.
Should be able to hear the pump run for like 3 seconds as you
switch the key on.
If it's a security fault the light on the dash should be lit ,or flashing.
No spark, check the rotor again,is it loose ,side to side?
The dist. may have a worn upper bushing, making the loss of spark.

1994 Chevy Suburban K1500 5.7L v8 157 thousand miles.. replacing timing chain on the vehicle and after replacement truck ran steady at 1k RPMs. During idle in park the following day the truck died, re

First you need to retrace your steps...before you changed the timing chain and gears did It run ok ? what was initial problem, next put a fuel pressure gauge on your fuel line and cycle your key on to run pos, dont have to try start, just run and see if you have fuel press during the 3 sec or so pump cycles, should be around i think 35-45 roughly for tbi. so if you have good fuel pressure , then you say you have good spark, then your problem is either ingition or valve timing, did your dist.come loose, did you properly install chain & gears and align timing marks. did you have somethine else a part on it too like intake, dist, ? get back with me I'll try to help you.
