Corded black and decker trimer

Have a trimmer/edger moder gh600 type 1 and after three years it seems like the line is feeding out too fast. Am I not winding the string tight enough or is their a spring missing from under the spool attached to the lever that lets the line feed out or is that just my imagination. Can't remember if their was one their or not. The spring on the spool is still there. The line sometimes gets so long that it wraps around the shaft on the motor and I know thats not good...Roger Ellerman

I went Dewalt Service Center, owns Black and Decker, and if anybody has too much line feeding out on their gh600 grasshog string trimmer its a simply fix but you have to buy a small part. Go to your nearest Dewalt Service Center and buy the little white lever that fits under the spool, they have redesigned it and it now comes with alittle metal insert over the part that fits into the bottom of the spool. They just pop out with pleirs and the new one snaps in its place. Once the lever starts wearing down just a little the line starts to feed out too fast, thats why they redesigned it with metal, doesn't wear as fast. You might as well buy a new spool with line too while your there, I think the total cost is around six bucks for both items. Good luck...

Please check your line diameter. If you are using stronger line than specified in the manual, it could be the root cause.

Black and Decker electric trimmer (grass hog) model GH600...eats thru line, one spool lasts about 3 minutes

It sounds like that the automatic line release is damaged.

1. Remove and clean all debris from the head. I assume that you have already done this if you have changed the line a few times, but just make sure.

2. Remove the the head from the shaft.

3. There should be a large spring in there. If its broken, damaged or missing that will allow the head to spool line pretty fast. again make sure all debris is removed from this area.

4. Check the feed dogs in the same area as the spring. If they are worn the same problem will occur.

5. Install line on the spool.Make sure that it is wound the proper direction. There should be arrows indicating this. The line wound in reverse will also cause the same problem as well.

6. Put it all back together and see if works now.

7. If this doesn't solve it you may need to replace the head assembly.

Good luck!

Look under Operating Instructions....Spool and Line Replacement. This model is probably same as yours in that regard. Diagrams and instructions are included.

String will not feed for BD grasshop Gh600 type 2

Have a problem with your B&D GH600 trimmer? Replace part LEVER, Item #29, Part #598435-00 for about $3.00 (B&D or Dewalt). Just pull old level straight out with pliers (ends expand to hold it in place) and push replacement in. No other parts.

Auto feed spool doesn't work

You may need to purchase a new spool housing, which may not be too hard to do, if you have one of the name brand trimmers. This replaces the whole mechanism that holds the line, the retaining ring, etc.

How to feed line into a black and decker trimer/edger model st6000 electric?

The ST6000 uses centrifugal force. Once you mount the new spool of string and thread it out of the feeder and into the housing below, plug it in, give it power and hold the line feed button down, feeding the line. Within seconds, the line will feed out through the head and you'll be in business.
