Fridge not cold. Freezer working. Strange noise constantly. Light comes on
I have a Roper model# RT14BKXKQ05. About a week ago the bottom stopped keeping things cold. It is just barely cold enough now to keep most of the food from spoiling. Drinks are just cool, not cold. The freezer is running fine. It has plenty of clearance from the walls, the coils are dust free, and there's a little bit of water in the drip pan. I have turned it down a little every day for the last five days or so, and it just keeps getting less cold. Someone suggested I turn it back to the original setting and see what that does, so I have.

You have a defrost problem, could be the timer not advancing, bad thermostat for the defrost system or an open heater. All of these items will cause this issue you have. the only way to find out is to test all the items. If I have to guess, I would replace the thermostat first, but its a guess as I am unable to test them. Good Luck
i find it hard to believe the compressor is going out,if the fridge is staying cold, put a thermometor in the fridge and it should stay about 32 degrees, ideally around 40 is a good temp.if the freezer isnt staying below 32 degrees then it sure sounds like a thermostat problem. But i have heard of computers in these newer refridgerators but havent worked on any just yet.
my Matytag msd2456dew fridge fan is running, no ice bulid up on coils in freezer section, but no cold air to freeze anything in freezer section or cold air in fridge section. what can be the problem?

Had the same problem on my GE bottom freezer fridge. It finnaly died a few days ago. The clicking came from a relay on the main circuit board under a access cover on the back of the fridge. Ordered a new circuit card from GE ($157.50 + ship/handeling), replaced it, and the fridge works great. I have an electronics background but if you take your time and are safe, I think anybody would be able to change it.
Hi, sorry I do not have any advice to offer. We have the same model. Three weeks ago the red light came on and freezer stopped working. Last week the fridge packed up. We may have been unlucky but I thought it might be worth mentioning incase they were related and your fridge gave up as well.
The defrost cycle is not happening like it should, that's what causes the block of ice (and poor air flow). If you have all that defrosted look at the defrost bi-metal, it usually is a small round disk with a couple wires coming out of it and it's clipped on the coils. When it's cold enough, it passes electricity to the heat elements, when it gets hot enough it "opens" and kills power to the heat elements. If that is bad (swollen cracked or bloated) and not passing electricity to the elements that's the problem. Another item would be the defrost timer itself, if it doesn't work (no clock motor turning) then it will never go into defrost. And the last and usually least expected failure would be the heat element themselves not working
