I'm trying to fix mine. I did find a little part when it came out - a orange color - it appears to need some kind of neoprene washer - but I can't get the door off.....

Refrigerator door will not stay closed

The lower hinge on each door may have a door closing cam. It raises the door up ¼ inch when opening and this assist in closing the door. If it’s wore out and doesn’t work the door may not seal and the gasket can be damaged. Watch the operation of the door to see if it rises up when opened.

Door won't stay shut Have to remove the bottom shelf on the door to get the door to stay closed

To replace

Leave the door shut and let the magnetic gasket hold the door in place. Put something between the bottom of the door and the floor to hold it in case it slips.
Remove the bracket holding the pin and hinge assembly taking note of order of removal of parts. Slide new cams on. You probably need two.

The door of the fridge does not close properly, You have to press hard on the door so that it closes airtight. Also, the freezer does not have a light.

The door closing can be a couple things. The door can be sagging. This can be fixed at the hinge pins. It can be overloaded with heavy things, causing the bottom to twist outward, this can be fixed by not storing as much weight in the door. And it could be the door seal. Replacement is required, if it doesn't have the elasticity that it should. I would try the first two things first, the door seals are not cheap. When it is fully aligned, close the door on a dollar bill. It should have a little resistance when pulling it out The more, the better.
The freezer light could just be a stuck switch in the door. Condensation can get in it and freeze when the door shuts, holding the switch in the off position.

The refrigerator door does not close unless you press firmly on it, especially if there is a lot of weight on the door shelves. Can it be ''re-balanced'' so that gravity helps it to stay closed?

Look at the door hinges;you should see some flat washers on the bottom of hinge.(maybe on top also). They are made with hard plastic or fiber, and are different thickness. You could probably use metal washers that you may have laying around.Loosen bottom hinge and pick up on bottom of door and hinge, and retighten hinge, someetimes this will solve problem.Other wise, may have to remove top hinge and lift door off and add washers till the door closes properly. When refrigerators are properly leveled, when you let go of the door,it should have a tenedency to close.Hope this helps Gregg

Amana ARB2117BW - Bottom Freezer Door Won't Stay Sealed

This problem was posted in the wrong section. My model didn't have it's own, so its in ABB1927DE Bottom Freezer Refrigerator - perhaps you could create a section for it.

As it turns out, I looked more closely at the baskets inside. We had noticed that if the top basket was slid all the way forward when we closed the door that it would close better. So I looked to see if they or the slides were out of alignment. They seemed ok, but then I saw that the way the bottom basket was hanging didn't seem right - it was not quite nestled into it's retainer slot. I took the baskets out and turned the bottom one around. It fit perfectly into it's retainer slot. I then replaced the top one (it was already in correctly) and closed the door. It sealed correctly the first time. I tested it several times after that and it sealed tightly. Closing the top door did not make it unseal as it had done before.

Our fridge door won't close properly

The door hinges have nylon bushings/washers to help them work smoothly. If the unit is very old and had a lot of use (like a large family) the bushings or washers could be just worn away. This also is indicated if the doors seem to be misaligned. If the doors don't seem out of place, it could just be that the unit is not sitting on a level surface, causing the box to twist and the doors th therefore bind.
Other possibilities: The door is burdened heavily with the milk, juices, food, etc. and therefore is just plain heavy. You have a "water-thru-the-door" unit and some leak has occurred to fill the door and it's insulation with water. (eww!)
Check to see that the surface is level, and that the door fits correctly. Make replacements or adjustments as necessary. Lighten the load on the door, or fix the leak.

If you find my suggestions to be helpful, please share with us some details so that others may benefit from knowing the whole story. Thank you!

Lower door wont stay closed

I doubt it. The problem is probably that the unit is on an uneven or unlevel floor. Make sure all 4 corners are 'solid' and the unit is level. Is the door overloaded? Any hinge damage to either door or loose hardware?

Door not closing properly.

take door off and pack bottom hinge with washers. make sure hingebrackets on cabinet are tight. however, door hanging a bit should not really affect sealing. if seal is gapping, one solution is to warm with a hairdryer and pull outwards gently
