Did not have Webcam driver for Compaq C773TU model for Vista

You didnt say whether this worked before or if you are doing a new OS install but the web camera driver is part of the vista operating system. See below info from HP....

Microsoft provides an automated Windows update function that examines your computer and installs the appropriate drivers and programs for Service Pack 2. One of the updated drivers, Microsoft USB Video driver , is required for proper operation of the webcam on your HP or Compaq notebook PC.
If you have updated to SP2 but the webcam is not working, see HP Notebook PCs - Webcam Does Not Work with Vista or After Upgrading to Vista , for detailed instructions on manually installing the latest webcam driver (usbvideo.sys) from Microsoft.

Webcam drivers and application

Here's the page you need for the installation of the drivers:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-48406-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=1842155&os=228

I'm not exactly sure what application came with this, but you don't need it to use it in msn messenger or yahoo messenger, etc.

Good luck!

To isolate the issue please test webcam in quick play. If it do not work and shows black screen. Please perform the following steps.

Click start and in the start search box type Device Manager and press enter. Then click on + sign next to imaging devices and right click on HP Webcam and select disable. If it prompts you to restart the Notebook . Then restart the Notebook and check whether Webcam is working. If it wont prompt to restart the notebook then right click on the HP webcam again and enable it.

Then check whether the webcam is working.

When prompted to restart the Notebook after disabling the webcam . Even after restarting if webcam doesn't work. Then install the Webcam drivers from the following weblink.

Please do not click on the link. Copy and paste it in a new Internet Explorer window.
