Uninstall the printer and download the newest version from here.

This will prevent several issues you may be having such as old driver, OS incompatibility, and scratched CD.

If this is not an option.

  1. Turn off the printer
  2. Move it to another USB port
  3. Remove the printer form the printer manager
  4. Uninstall the drivers and software if necessary
  5. Run the software
  6. Turn on the printer when prompted.
  7. If the autoconfigure wizard comes up cancel it.

You need the Recovery CD for your model HP laptop or a Windows XP installation CD plus the product installation code.
The product installation code is printed on the Windows XP label that is attached to the bottom of your laptop.

You need an original Windows 7 installation CD to change from Vista to Windows 7.
After purchasing the installation CD, simply install it and Windows Vista will be replaced by Windows 7.

HP 520 Notebook. Shuts down before installing new OS.

I agree a clean install is always the better, fresh start J
OK it sounds like missing drivers, what you have to do is create a new installation CD that will load the drivers for your laptop as it boots. I haven’t try this method with windows 7, but I know it works well with Windows XP. Try and create a new Windows XP CD with the drivers see: http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/35/
The start a new installation with this Windows XP CD and reformat you computer, after that you can do a new upgrade to windows 7

You have two choices, either you install Windows from a generic Windows install CD, then you download and install all drivers from HP website here:
HP Support & Drivers
Or you contact HP and purchase a recovery disk here:

Scanning won't work on HP printer has an erroer(ox7927bacaco2dbg.exeonac

If you used a copied Windows CD or even a good windows CD. The odds are windows did not install all the HP printer/scanner files you need listed in the windows system32 folder. Don't bother calling HP I did that myself & I seem to have more information the HP. Suggest you do a complete fresh install of window. That's the only way to get the missing files back into windows. You can uninstall Hp's software all day long & reinstall & it will not make a difference. (Sorry). Again make sure you are not using a copied windows CD.
