    Hi there stmddr1228,

Let's see if we can get you fixed up. I'll explain what what you need to do and why. You are my eyes and hands. When we are done, not only will your printer be working, you'll have a better understanding of your new acquisition.

First off, not all computers and printers are the same. They are able to connect several ways. There are also specific drivers (how the computer talks to the printer) needed for specific printers. This makes remote tech support a bit challenging.

So step one is: more info.

    Printer:

    • Make/Model

    • Did you buy it new? Do you have the driver CD?

    • Do you have the proper data cable?

    • Is the cable USB or Parallel? (Parallel has a 25 pin connector on one side,

    Computer:

    • What Operating System installed?
    This should get us going.

Check which cables are provided with your printer. You need a powercable and a USB cable. Many printer manufacturers do not supply the USB cable, but this is the cable required to connect it to your PC. You can buy USB cables at almost any computer store.Just ask for a USB cable to connect a printer to the PC.

Prop bitmap dll not loaded

This often happens with Office 2007 and Dell or Lexmark printers. Go to Start, Printers and Faxes. Your Dell or Lexmark printer is probably designated the default printer. Change the default to "Send to [name of Office program]" -- it should already be listed in your printers and faxes. Then try your print preview. You shouldn't get the error.

Of course, you're not going to want to leave your default printer settings like that. But this step assures you that the problem is with your printer and/or its software, not with Microsoft's product. You'll want to contact your printer manufacturer to resolve it.

In the meantime, you have two choices -- live with the annoying error popups, or change your desired printer every time you want to print something.

Let me know if this helps!

Cant find hp officejet t45 printer on line to hook up to my computer

Ok first check if the printer is already shared, then try opening PRINTERS and FAXES, then click on ADD PRINTER, on the wizard choose the option A NETWORK PRINTER, OR PRINTER ATTACHED TO ANOTHER COMPUTER, click on next the choose the option BROWSE FOR A PRINTER, click on next then you should see your Workgroup Click on it and Choose the Name of the Server or PC in which the printer is attached click on next you will be automatically prompted just choose YES and the software drivers should be automatically installed to your system. Afterwards, go to PRINTERS and FAXES again once you see the printer right-click and set to default printer.

Hope this helps:)

Hi there. I have just taken over this office and am not sure what is connected and what is not. I am trying to send a fax through my computer and the "waiting for printer to respond:Canon MP830...

you need to give more details on how you're trying to send the fax.
keep in mind you don't actually need a printer to send the fax if you're using your computer to send the fax.. that's the reason you need to be more precise when discribing your problem.

in general you need to be familiar with how things are connected.

if your printer is a fax machine too the minimum you need is to have your printer/fax connected to a line (to the telephone wall jack) and to be powered up.

if your printer is only a printer and you're using your computer to send the fax you need to have your modem (the connector in the back of your computer that looks like a telephone line but says not telephone but 'line' connected to the phone line on the wall) connected and have software that allows you send faxes via your computer. (windows xp has that software so you need to make sure is installed (start>control panel>add remove programs>add/remove windows components>fax services should be installed) and if the software is installed you should be able to go to start>accessories>communications>fax>fax console

confirm what is your set up and give more details.

Can a Lexmark X4270 be used as a stand alone copier and fax without being hooked to the computer?

Absolutely! The only thing needed for use as a fax is being plugged into a live phone line. These are specifically designed for just that purpose so the computer does not have to be left running while fax machine and copier remain on in the office. Mainly so the office can shut down the computer when not needed to save power when not needed. Ex. to receive faxes at night when the office is closed. You only need to leave the printer on and it will function as a stand alone copier fax machine. The computer is only required when you want to print a document or scan a page and save it. I hope this fully answers your question.
If you have others feel free to ask.

Installed Lexmark 1240 but when I try to set up fax it says no modem found

Yes, This assumes that you are hooking the printer upto a 56k/Fax modem on the Computer, Which the Printer already has itself, What you will want to do, Is hook a Phone line upto the the Printer in the appropriate slot, and dont worry about setting the Fax feature up on your Computer, Just Worry about the Scanner, printer. For the Fax Feature, Dial the number on the Printer and It should work without Ever touching the Computer

How can I set up wireless printer

To share the printer, I open the Printers and Faxes folder on the computer that was connected to my printer.

To open the Printers and Faxes folder

• Click Start and then click Control Panel.
• Click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Printers and Faxes.
• In the Printers and Faxes folder. Click the printer's icon and, in the tasks pane, click Share This Printer.
• Open the printer's Properties dialog box, and click on the Sharing tab.
• Click Share Name, and then clicked OK.

That's it
Now you have a network printer, you are ready to connect to it and print from other computers on the network.

To connect to the printer

•O pen Control Panel, and click Printers and Other Hardware.
•C lick Add a Printer.
• Instead of adding a local printer, though, click Printer Connection and then browse the network for the printer.

My printer will not print.

Is there a cable physically connecting the printer to the computer? If so, do you see the printer in Printers and Faxes?
