HP M2727 Scanner 5 or Scanner 8 error

UPDATE: HP is no longer honoring this repair.

If you have an HP M2727 and you are getting this error, there may be hope for you. Check the back of your product for the sticker with the serial number on it. Also on that sticker is the date of manufacture. If your machine was manufactured before January 1, 2010, then HP has a service advisory that addresses this issue. A service advisory is an admission by HP that the product does not meet expected standards and as such they offer a free repair of the machine, regardless of the warranty status of the product. HP will replace both the scanner assembly and the formatter on your machine and it will not cost you a dime. You simply need to contact HP at 1-800 HPINVENT. You can also contact any local HP service partner directly to obtain service. Be insistent as I have found some dealers are not aware of this service advisory. This service advisory is valid until December 31, 2011.

We have a M2727 Laserjet Printer/Fax . We can print, and we can receive fax, but our problem is sending a FAX.. Keeps giving us an error code of 49. Please advise Thank-You, Marla

HP LaserJet M2727 Multifunction Printer Series - 49 Error Message Is Displayed While Faxing ISSUE: The printer control panel will be displaying 49 service error while sending faxes. The receiving fax will be lost, and the printer will display the same error even after reboot. SOLUTION: Performing a factory reset and a firmware upgrade is the only solution for this issue. Step 1: Performing a factory reset Restoring the factory-set defaults returns all of the settings to the factory defaults, and it also clears the fax header name and phone number. CAUTION: This procedure clears fax numbers and names that are associated with one-touch keys and speed-dial codes, and deletes any pages that are stored in the memory. The procedure then automatically restarts the product. Perform the following steps to restore the factory-set defaults: 1. On the product control panel, press Setup . 2. Use the arrow buttons to select Service , and then press OK . 3. Use the arrow buttons to select Restore defaults , and then press OK . The product automatically restarts. Step 2: Firmware upgrade After coming to ready, upgrade the printer firmware from the HP website. The issue can be fixed with any of the firmware upgrade available now. Firmware version 20080505 and higher versions have the fix. You can download firmware version 20080612 from the HP LaserJet M2727 Firmware Update 20080612 webpage. I have an Hp m2727mfp with error code 79 and a few days before an error code 49, any idea what it could be?

Please update your firmware to the current version as this will usually fix these problems. Go to the HP website and search for M2727 software and downloads. Current revision is 20100902.

Everything I'm reading online at HP says that either will be fixed when you re-initialize or you have to send the Printer/Scanner into HP for repair. The customer service says to call the Support line: 1-800-474-6836 to help with re-initialization.

From what I can see this is a common problem and even happens frequently on brand new machines.
