If you are having 512 MB RAM then simply replace it by 1GB or if you are having another slot then fix 512 MB RAM in it. You will find the RAM inside the CPU. Open the CPU and then u will find a strip which will be fixed in the slot.
U can see the picture of RAM from net and identify it

Tried to upgrade memory on Asrock K8NF4G-SATA2 to 2 X 1Gb modules. With one module fitted PC starts and shows 1Gb. With 2 fitted it will not start. Tried both modules one at a time in slot 0 and board will...

Hello here is the homepage:

http://www.asrock.com/mb/NVIDIA/K8NF4G-SATA2/

I think the second slot for the ram might have a defect.

The problem could also be a bios setting or an update.

The bios can be upgraded while the system is running.

If you are in doubt upgrading the bios let a expert do this for you.

Remember that dust can make a bad connection and do not touch the contact points with your fingers.

Try to buy a can with compressed air and blow the ram slot out for dust.

The ram modules must sometimes be at equal size (mhz) in order to the mainboard can boot with the ram.

Good luck

probably wrong buss speed or memory configuration. may need to have HP specific RAM. the older machines can be rather picky about 'proprietary' Ram configuration. have an older Compaq laptop that accepts (it fits in the slot), from a Dell laptop, but doesn't like it!
Boot-up shows it as extra Ram, but shut down gives me weird vertical colored bars and i have to shut down manually. you may want go online, if you can, and order HP upgrade Ram for your desktop. perhaps you should replace your system with a newer desktop! sounds rather old to me! no offense- we make do with what we have! my first computer was a commodore vic20- 1981! then a c64- much better for the time-1982- then a c126- 1984. then Dos 1.0, Dos 2.0 Dos 3.0 Dos 6.6 windows 96, etc. even had Pong, Atari, NES (love dragon warrior 4) now p4 toshiba satellite-keyboard sucks!!. laptop. my wife has a desktop 3.2 G CPU 2G Ram .at least i'm portable!
So, consider an upgrade. check E-bay, or Craigslist.com.
what OS are you running? Win98? 2000? ME?

I have an asus k8v-mx motherboard running only 512 mb of ram what type of ram would suit this mother board and could i fit a 1 x 2mb ram instead of 2 x 1mb?

Dear Sir,

*********** board is Asus old p4 Mother board. It supports maximum 1GB RAM of DDR 400(DDR1). According to your post your computer having only one 512 MB working RAM. If you want good purformance you can upgrade your computer by purchasing another 512MB DDR400 RAM and install it on another RAM slot.If your computer have only one working RAM slot, you can purchase 1GB DDR400 RAM & install it on older RAM place. I think it solves your problem.if you have any problem come back with more information. I will try to assist you more accurately.

good luck

Ram upgradation

The system uses shared video memory, so it will always show less memory than actually installed.
It's a good machine, but needs all memory it can get for Vista.
Good luck
