Question about GE Spacemaker JVM1640SJ Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Microwaves turning on by themselves

You mentioned in a post that you routinely repair defective control panel membranes nationwide for 32.50. We have been tracking this problem of microwaves turning themselves on and causing fires. "We" is my partner and I at BringGoodThingsToLife.org. If possible, could I speak to you about this problem? My phone is 239-592-5454, or cell 239-272-3621.

Samsung makes GE microwaves and has for quite some time.

Samsung had (has?) a recall on some models for shorting keypad, which could turn on the microwave and cause it to run.

Feel free to contact me directly.

F3 keeps showing on the oven screen cannot do any functions

F3 on a GE / Hotpoint microwave means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

On some GE models, the membrane keypad is not available as a separate part, so you would have to order the control panel frame assembly which comes with a new keypad.

If you would like to have us do this repair for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs nationwide.

Feel free to contact me via our site (and please mention your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

Light on the bottom of microwave wont turn on. microve not working. got error F4. what should I do?

It depends on the brand and model, but if yours is a GE, F4 is a defective humidity sensor.

Assuming the light bulb is good, if it's not coming on, chances are a surge damaged the controller when it failed.

But we can usually repair these with out $39.95 nationwide repair service.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

GE countertop microwave shows "F3" on display, won't work

F3 on a GE means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

There are two ways to fix this model, either replace the membrane keypad which is a lot of work (handy guide with pictures) or to replace the complete controller.

It's probably not going to be economical even to repair it yourself if you or a friend want to. It depends on the model:

JES1334WD001
JES1334WD01
JES1334WD02
JES1334WD03
JES1334WD04

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

I looked up parts prices for the -02 verison.

ref # 38 part number WB27X10554 membrane keypad $69.71 here (compared to $112.50 direct from GE!)

ref # 42 part number WB07X11076 complete controller assembly $131.01 here (compared to $196.25 direct from GE!)

F3 appears on key pad and beeps

You didn't mention your brand or model number, but F3 on a GE / Hotpoint microwave means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

If and when an oven is coming on or doing anything by itself, this is very dangerous and can result in a fire.

So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open when it's not in use, and of course one should never leave a microwave unattended while cooking.

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts for most brands by entering your full model number here.

If it's a GE, there should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

If you would like to have us do this repair for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs nationwide.

But please note that for some GE models, the membrane keypad is not available as a separate part, so you would have to order the control panel frame assembly which comes with a new keypad.

In this case, you simply move your circuit board into the new frame.
That is a simple do-it-yourself job.

Either way, we can let you know what your options and costs would be and send you other helpful info.
