How to make dual boot with window xp vista and windows 7

Dual booting Windows is the most challenging of the three options; however, making it work can be very rewarding. The process of creating a dual boot environment differs from Windows Vista to XP. Please follow the instructions according to which version of Windows you are currently using.
To run two operating systems on your computer, you will need to add a second partition. If you are not familiar with adding a partition, you can learn how in this section. Please note: each operating system will be able to see the other partition; thus, you can share files between them.

Dual Boot with window x and windows 7

You will need third party software to create a second partition for Windows 7; once you have created the partition, you can install Windows 7 on it.

Create a New Partition (Vista)

Click the Start button, right click Computer, and clickManage

In the left pane, click Disk Management

Now create a new partition by shrinking a previous volume so you can use the newly created space. Right click on the partition and clickShrink Volume.

Now right click the free space and click New Simple Volume…
Specify the volume size and click Next

Format the drive as NTFS, give it a label, and click Next

Power on your computer, insert the Windows 7 DVD, and restart your computer

Press the necessary key to initiate booting from your DVD (usually Esc or F12.)

Windows will now load the installation files.

Click Install now
Your computer will restart several times during the process as it configures itself and installs updates Be sure to leave the DVD in the drive and let Windows take care of itself.

Memory (RAM) – 1.25 GB required, 2 GB memory recommended.
Recommended 15 GB hard disk space per virtual Windows environment.
NB: Windows XP Mode is only available in Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows 7 Professional, and Windows 7 Ultimate.

Click Ctrl+Alt+Del to get to Task Manager. Hold the Ctrl key, plus Hold the Alt Key then hit the Del key while holding them. Once the task manager opens Clcik the Processes tab then click the Image Name Column heading on the left to get them in alphabetical order. Scroll down and look for explorer.exe. If you see it click it to highlight it then click End Process.

Next, click the FILE tab at the very top left of the window and select New Task (RUN). When the Create New Task window opens type explorer.exe and press ok. Your start menu, task bar and desktop icons will start appearing and populating. if not that means a virus has hidden your files and folders.

The steps required when replacing the hard drive and ensuring that the software is input on the new drive

Gizmo runs a freeware site. It is easy to create an exact drive image.
http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-drive-imaging-program.htm
Choose a program, read carefully the instructions, download, install and run. Ideally, you should backup to the new drive, however it is not possible in a laptop - no connection! Create the image on DVD (making sure you create an additional DVD recovery media to get the image off the image DVD back to the new drive) and then use the DVD to put everything back as original.

Another solution? If you are using Windows 7, it already comes with drive imaging software! Windows Backup can complete the whole process! Leave the program scheduled and it can make regular backups as well.

After you have made a verifyable image backup, you can switch the drives, making sure you disconnect the power and remove the battery first... and do not drop or mishandle the drives!

How to format toshipa satellite L200 laptop

All new Toshiba laptops ship from the factory with the ability to run the system recovery process from a hard disk partition, and with preinstalled software that can be used to record recovery media to blank discs. Toshiba recommends creating recovery media to ensure the ability to run a system recovery even if the hard disk recovery partition is damaged or deleted, or if the hard disk breaks. Reconditioned laptops may not include this recovery enabling software so may require that recovery media be purchased.

Recovery media can be ordered online. Click here to begin the order process. There is no charge for the software itself, for which customers already own licenses, and as of 10/1/10 the shipping and handling charges for delivery of recovery media in the US is $24.95 for DVD media or $34.95 for USB sticks.

Simple test to determine if it's a hardware or software problem : try to boot in the BIOS. If you can't then it's hardware you should just return it, it's still in the warranty. If you can then Windows is totally corrupted so just reinstall it.

Reformat a secodary HD

Am I correct to understand that you are attempting to install your operating system on the new hard drive, but are not successful? Or are you trying to reformat the old drive?
What OS are you using, XP or Vista?
It sounds like you will need to create a bootable image of your operating system to use for the new installation. I recommend you make a slipstream CD with service packs applied to use for the install.
Here is a step by step guide that takes you through the process of installing the HD.
What I think you want to do is called creating a bootable disk for what is known as a clean install.
If you are trying to install xp, have a look here and here and here
Finally, here is an article that is a little dated but explains the process you will be following in those previous links. create installation cd
I hope I have understood your question correctly, and this information allows you to resolve this issue.
If not please post back with a clarification.

If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take a moment to kindly rate this post....thanks!
