Reinstall it, and if you are using it on vista, and its a version made for xp, which is possible, right click on the icon for it on the desktop and click on properties. there should be a tab that says compatability. select the operating system as windows xp. and that should do it. if not, you may have internet problems. If you are talking about checking it online, and not on the actual program (windows live messenger, which you can download from here: http://get.live.com/messenger/config) then you should probably install the program and then try accessing it.

Unable to send e-mails in windows mail

In Win Vista Outlook is reconfigured to WIndows Live mail, so the only solution is to use this version , but you can transfer your account settings from earlier computer with outlook installed... there is a link how to do that, but it leads to another site then another etc.

Siplest explanation is : from outlook_> export everything to a file, and then tranfer it to windows live by "import"

My computer keeps "auto-adding" contacts I already have. how can I stop this?

If you use Windows Live Mail to manage your Hotmail account, any email addresses that you reply to at least three times are automatically stored in your Address Book as frequent contacts. If this function is cluttering your contacts list and you want to deactivate it, you can do so through Windows Live Mail's Options dialog.

Open Windows Live Mail and click the "Show Menu" button, then "Options." Select the "Send" tab in the Options dialog box that appears. Uncheck the box next to "Automatically put people I reply to in my address book after the third reply" and click "OK."

Cannot sign in to my hotmail email account, have forgotten password and the forgot password link is unhelpful as it sends an email to you on how to change your reset your password but how can i access this...

To reset your password by providing location information and the answer to your secret question:
  1. On any Windows Live ID site or service sign-in page, click Forgot your password.
  2. Enter your Windows Live ID (The e-mail address and password that you use to sign in to Windows Live programs and services such as Windows Live Hotmail and Windows Live Messenger; Microsoft services such as Xbox, MSN, and Office Live; and anywhere else that you see the Windows Live ID logo.) , type the characters you see in the Picture box, and then click Continue.
  3. Click Use my location information and secret answer to verify my identity.
  4. In the Country/Region list, select the name of your country or region , select your state, and then type your ZIP code ( The postal code system that is used in the United States. The ZIP code consists of a series of digits that are added to a postal address. The ZIP code is used to identify each postal delivery area for the purpose of sorting mail.) or postal code ( A series of letters and/or digits that are added to a postal address and used by the postal service for the purpose of sorting mail.) if you’re prompted to do so. In the Question area in the Secret Answer box, type your answer to the question.
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Enter and confirm a new password, and then click Continue.
  7. If prompted, enter an alternate e-mail address (An alternate e-mail address is a secondary e-mail address registered with your Windows Live ID credentials. In the event that you forget your password, you can request to have the password reset information sent to your alternate e-mail address.) and click Continue, or click Skip to bypass this step.
  8. On the You've changed your password page, click Sign in to Windows Live.

Type your Windows Live ID, type the characters that appear in the Picture box, and then click Continue. 3. Click Send yourself a password reset e-mail message. 4. Click Send Message. 5. On the confirmation page, click Done. 6. Sign in to your e-mail account, and then click the link in the e-mail message to reset your password. 7. On the Confirm your e-mail address page, type your e-mail address, and then click Continue. 8. Type your new password two times, and then click Continue. 9. If you want to enter an "alternate" e-mail address, type the address two times, and then click Continue.

I have been using windows live mail for several months for two email accounts. My hotmail account works fine but for my second westnet account (www.westnet.com.au) i am able to recieve email but unable to...

G'day,

All of the documentation on the westnet.com.au site shows that your "Outgoing mail server" should be set to "mail.westnet.com.au", not "mail.wn.com.au". Please check both of your accounts in Windows Live.

If this doesn't fix your proble, could you please repost the settings for your two accounts so that I can compare them?
