no i do not have dedicated graphics but i was told that a featur of the laptop was a media accellerator up to 358mb graphics but its set on 8mb currently. I was lead to believe this could be changed easily as it is a shared graphics with the ram.

Unfortunately with laptops, you are usually stuck with what you start off with. The computer usually controls the amount of video ram being used because it only takes as much ram as is needed. However, if you have a graphics CARD, it may be possible to up it. Do you have a graphics card on your laptop?

U can not change it ! but u don;t need to ! the video card will take the amount needed ! (if u don;t use any video application will take the minimum amount(8MB), when u start playing a game for example will increase the memory until it satisfies the needs, but not more than 358MB...)

I want to upgrade the graphics card on my acer aspire m3400 but can not locate the card on the motherboard

That's because the video is integrated into the motherboard. This PC supports HDMI... what exactly are you trying to 'upgrade'? If the on-board video is not performing as you want, from what you can see here, you may only need to upgrade RAM on your MB:

http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/desktop/2010/acer/Aspire/AspireM3400/AspireM3400sp2.shtml

#4 at the bottom of the page:
Shared system memory may be allocated to support integrated graphics, depending on system memory size and other factors. Actual system memory available to the operating system will be reduced by the amount of dedicated and shared system memory utilized by the graphics solution and resources required by the operating environment.

HAVE BEEN TOLD BY EA GAMES THAT MY COMPUTER IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR THEIR GRAPHICS. IS THIS TRUE . WHAT CAN I DO. ACER ASPIR M1610

it's not really the computer... that appears to be a dual core with 2gb of ram.... you will most likely need to invest in a video card with suffiecient onboard memory to run the games

Ram problem

IT IS A SHARED MEMORY
You won't like the resolution if you remove the 8mb buffer in bios set-up, trust me.(it will make your display look like 16color windows 3.1 or worse) You could try it and it will get you back that 8 meg the other is shadow ram, don't mess with that either.
Your options in advanced video are 8mb and 1mb. My advice, leave it.

Acer Aspire E380 memory

Hi pimp69,
You can only use components compatible with Aspire series computers. Before you choose new components, please ask your authorized Acer dealer whether the part will operate within your Aspire series system. This is noted in your manual pg. 6.
Compatible memory for your Acer. Don't forget your Acer uses an intergrated graphics card that uses your system memory to function.

Graphics upgrade

As long as you have a open vga, vga e, or pci slot in your computer you should be able to install a new video card. the Acer website says your motherboard supports up two gigs of ram, I am not sure how much ram you are running but if it is under 1 gig I would consider upgrading that also. as far as a graphics card goes get one that has at least 512 mb of its own ram so it dosent pull from your system ram as I am sure your current on-board card is doing. Another couple of hints are: if you are running Windows Vista you they call for 1 gig ram for optimal performance, also it is very important that you un-install any graphics drivers before you install new ones, and when you install the new card read the instructions completely before you do anything.
hope this helps
