Question about Mitsubishi WS-65807 65" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Won't power up.

A friend of mine has asked me to look at their 65" Mits. WS-65807. He says that the kids were arguing over turning the t.v. on and off. After several times of turning the unit on and off the unit did not come on again. When I run the diagnostic routine it flashes a 2 2 sequence at me indicating a short. Does anybody have any idea where one might start looking at this problem? Although I have electronics training it has been a while since I have used it, but I still understand the lingo so please feel free to get as detailed as you like with a possible solution.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Marc

    Slinteriors,

Thanks for the help. I also found that suggestion on another board last night. I checked the board and both fuses actually check open in the board. So I guess I will be ordering up a couple of fuses and STK's and we will see if that puppy plays once more.

Thanks again, it is really great that we can all help each other like this. There is no telling how much money people can save by going to these forums like this one.

    Have a great day,

I also have a 65807 and I just tried to power on. I get sound but no picture. Is there an easy solution to this problem?

  • MFlash Aug 15, 2008

I thought I left a thank you message the other day but it doesn't
appear to have taken. Anyway thanks for the suggestion I have the
parts on order. Both fuses showed up as blown while in the board. I
wonder if that is indicative of something else being wrong since you
say one usually shows up as good?

I also being a self proclaimed genius have messed up and broke the
flyback transformer. Does anyone know where I can get one? The part
number according to the service manual is 334p278010. If anyone knows
of a substitution part number or where to find one that would help out
    a lot also.

    Thanks again,

    Marc

    Greetings Slinteriors,

I had seen the ones listed on the site but I didn't realize that they were substitutions for the one I am looking for. Just so I am straight on this, (and we both know that I am a self proclaimed genius. he-he) are both of the numbers you show above acceptable replacements for the one I am looking for?

Thanks again Slinteriors, you are a lot of help to a lot of people I have noticed and I am sure they appreciate it as much as I do.

    Have a great day,

    Marc

    Slinteriors,

Sorry to bother you again. I just checked the service manual and they show the part number for the fbt to 334P278010. I know this may sound like a stupid question but since I don't know the answer it isn't too stupid I hope. Is this the same part number that you showed me above only with the final digit dropped making it 334P27801?

Thanks again, hopefully that will be the last time I will have to bother you. I will update as soon as I have put the parts in and let you know the fruits of your labor.

    Have a great day,

    Slinteriors,

Once again you have been of great help!

Thanks, it has been so long since I have been out of the loop in repairing electronics at the board level I have probably forgotten more than I ever knew, he-he. I am finding out though that it is all coming back slowly but surely. Maybe one day I will be able to throw in my two cents worth and help somebody fix theirs and balance out my karma. Most of my training came from the Air Force working on weapon control systems on the F4C/D model which was vacuum tube technology. When I got out of the AF I was in a world of solid state circuitry and vacuum tubes were just a fading memory. I went down to Radio Shack and bought a couple of books on solid state circuitry and taught myself everything I need to know in order to make a living at it.

Have a great day and I will be sure to update as soon as I have all of the parts in, the switch thrown, and a couple of good movies watched for testing purposes.

Slinteriors,I just received my FBT that was supposed to have the substitution part for 334P27801. Much to my dismay it is not the correct part. Any other suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Slinteriors,

I just looked around the unit that is still on the board. It has a label that I had not noticed before and it has the part number we are looking for. Evidently the company I ordered the part from has some inventory that is mis-labeled.

Sorry about the mix up and thanks again for all of your help.

Well I have put all of the parts in now and we are still dead. I do not have the same symptoms though.

When I first plugged it in I had a static sound coming from the speakers (no input attached). Then the sound stopped and a picture never tried to come up. Now I when I plug it in I get the usual flashing three lights. When I push and hold the menu and input buttons for five seconds I get a 1 and a 2 stating that there are no errors.

Does anybody have any ideas on this? I did put in both stk's and the two fuses, I also put in the new FBT that I received today. I have double checked my connectors to make sure they are all plugged in and unless some are hiding from me they are all plugged in and in the correct spot.

Thanks in advance for any advise.

    Greetings Slinteriors,

The only reason the FBT was bad was because of my stupidity. I pulled on the white line coming out of it thinking it disconnected there. About the time I stopped pulling it broke, this is why I proclaimed myself a genius he-he.

Are there any particular points that I can probe with a scope or dmm to verify one or the other? Is there any significance to hearing the static sound and then not hearing anything? Do you know of any test I can run?

Other than no picture and now no sound I have no other indicators to go on, everything else appears to be normal.

    Thanks again slinteriors

I hope I am not double posting again but what I tried to post seems to have disappeared.

    Slinteriors,

Thanks for all of the help. I plugged in a connector that I some how missed and the set came up running. I did the advanced convergence and the picture looks great.

Slinteriors, thanks for putting up with my thick head. I have to take a lot of morphine for a very bad back problem and it makes it really hard to focus sometimes. So I greatly appreciate you putting up with this self proclaimed genius (he-he).

Have a great life everybody and keep up this forum it is a great help to a lot of people.

LED error code blinks 1-2, indicating nothing wrong (big help). There is a board-to-board connector in the rear that has at least one broken wire. It looks like a few drops of coolant leakage on it causing corrosion. I got the TV free after a "repair" guy dorked around with it. I have the training manual for a similar set, but it does little to explain possible faults when the led blink code is 1-2. Any ideas or common faults to investigate will be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    -Dan

Check the center board for two green 5amp Pico fuses F9A04 and F9A05 if those two picos are blow, replace both STK392-570 convergence ICs on that same board and the set will be repaired. Fuse F9A05 will read open in circuit but F9a04 wont so its best to lift one side of those two pico fuses out of circuit to check them. (* % of the time a 22 code in that chassis its the ICs having shorted and it will blow those two picos. You can get replacement parts at the following link.

The same link I posted above has the flyback also listed under their flyback catagory. 334P278A1 is also 334P27801

Yes they are the same Flyback alot of places drop the last letter on mitsubishi if its a 0

it has to be one of the regulators or horizontal output then, If the flyback was indeed bad the Hot would almost certainly need replacement as well.

you can check the outputs on the low voltage regulators to see if one is low

I doubt it as it was never designed for that kind of input, Component works best on this set and it should have only one HD input for a box marked in the menu as DTV.
