There is also Atheros WiFi driver for your lap top, so You may try that one, it's from the official Packard Bell web site http://global-download.packardbell.com/GDFiles/Driver/Wireless%20LAN/Wireless%20LAN_Atheros_220.127.116.11_W7x64_A.zip?acerid=634145041043920996&Step1=Notebook&Step2=EasyNote&Step3=EN%20TM80&OS=721&LC=en&BC=Packard%20Bell&SC=EMEA_27P
Wifi needs utility to scan the hotspots before you can connect to any one of them. Utility maybe in control panel as wireless(not IR). Then you can see the wifi icon in system tray next to the time and date.
There is a strong chance that the wireless card inside is bad. I work at a computer repair shop and work mainly with laptops. It isn't uncommon for wireless cards to go bad, before their "time". Usually Dell's have access panels on the bottom of the laptop where you can see the wireless card. It will have 2, sometimes 3 small wires plugged into it. Usually dell' use Dell brand cards, which are really repackaged Broadcom wireless cards in most cases. In your situation, write down what the model number is, go to another computer, look up that model on ebay, buy one, replace it.
wireless card issue is a typical promblem with the Tx1000, first thing is that you changed the operating system and window 7 is unable to pick up the wireless card hardware, and a driver is needed to be installed for the wireless card, which you can find at the Hp site or the broadcom site if you have the broadcom wireless card. Other then that, if nothing works, then try to see if the laptop can locate the wireless card trough the hardware/sound device manager in the control panel. After opening the device manager and scrolling to hardwares and the wireless card is not found, then this is the typical tx1000 wifi mystery promblem. This promblem is associated with the laptop overheating and thus caused the card expansion slot to become defect. This by far is the start of a more promblematic issue that many other tx1000 owner is having. Google "mysterious wifi card on hp tx1000" and there are thousand out there with the same situation.
The wireless adapter of your laptop is Broadcom. Check if you can find a folder by that name. If so setting it up depends on the kind of driver back up you made. If your back up is of :-
Installation package: Look for setup / install in the Broadcom folder and install it.
Sys and inf Files: Right click on My Computer click Manage and on the left tree pane click on Device Manager. Look for a question marked network device or controller, right click on it and click on Update Driver. On the welcome to the hardware update wizard click on No not at this time and click Next. Select install from a list of specific locations and click Next. Check "Include this locations in the search" if u found the Broadcom folder in your back up CD browse for it here. Otherwise Check "Search removable media..." . Insert your driver back up Media and click Next. If ur driver is located install it.
Goto this page of the manufacturer's site, download the driver that suits your operating system and install it
You can turn the wireless on from the control panel. In control panel you will find HP wireless assistant with which you can turn on the wireless. However, the issue could be with the wireless driver or quick launch buttons.I will provide you the drivers for the notebook zv6000. Download and install them on the notebook.
HP Quick Launch Buttons
HP uses "branded" wireless modules, which means it's got to be HP or it doesn't get to play.
Does device manager see the wireless device? I've had similar situations with the 8000s. Always the driver or the wireless utility was the problem. Try letting windows manage the device, or if you already are, disable that and use the devices utiliy to manage it.
BTW, most systems consider BT as wireless.
Good luck, hope that helps
