If the web administration can not be accessed.
The button on the front of the drive can be pressed in a specific sequence.
Switch OFF the Ethernet Disk by holding the button until it begins flashing in a pattern. Release the button, and it will shut off shortly afterward.
Press and hold the power button. After a few seconds the light should begin to blink. Release the button.
Quickly after releasing the button (within ~3 seconds), the LED will blink, but at a different rhythm. Press and hold the button again.
The light will switch to a third rhythm. Release the button. It is now using the factory-installed firmware.
Regardless of the method used, all users and shares on the system are lost. The data is still on the drive, however. To restore the data, recreate the users and shares with their original names (through the Users, and Shares tabs, respectively.)

Hello,
the OS of the Ethernet Big disk is on the hard drives, so you did erase them. This unit should only be formatted using the administration page drive format option.
LaCie usually does not give away the OS, so your option would be to close some other Ethernet Big Disk or Ethernet Disk Mini drives unto your now formatted drives.

Goto control panel/ admin tools/computer management then disk management now with a bit of luck you should see your drive. Right click it and give it a new drive letter, hopefully now it shows in computer and u can get all of your data.

WD external drive is not opening usb

If by USP, you mean USB, then this is not possible. The drives USB ports are only for extra storage and not meant for communication to a PC. You can try connect the drive directly to the PC with a network cable and then map it as a network drive.

To do this, right click on my computer and select 'map network drive'. In the folder option type \\**name of the device**\public and then select 'finish'.

**name of the device**: If you have changed the name previously, you should use that name for it. Ig you have not changed the name, then the default names are either mybookworld, so \\mybookworld\public or 'wdstorage', so \\wdstorage\public.

If you have created your own shares and wish to map them, just replace the public share with the share you want.

The drive will appear in my computer and you can access your data.

Hope this helped!

I have a shared folder with files in it. I disabled one share, then the rest of the shared folders went gone. how will I recover the data in it?

Hi sej_nb5,

A shared folder is only a way to access data files from multiple computers. If you are using the external drive, you will need to go and click on ":My Computer" and then find that drive, It will be called "E drive" or "F drive" in the list, and when you click on that drive you will have access to the entire drive, and you will need to navigate to those folders and files. You can re-share the drive when you get to the folder that you want by right clicking and choosing share.

Good Luck,

Mark

Sounds like it's hooped. Only way to recover data is to try to take it to a data recovery lab.... which can be pricey.

Everytime i copy files into the lacie 2T big disk extreme it gives me an error after uploading that says can't copy file because is been "used". I have reformat it but still gives me the problem. What...

It may sound unrelated but there are maybe two things to check first

1. If the drive or folder you are copying from is "shared" then this could quite conceivably cause the problem. Check and turn off the share or move COPY the file to a non shared location first.

2. Unwanted programs eg. virus / malware / spyware can also cause these types of issue. NOTE there is a great difference between virus and spyware and they both need special programs to deal with this area.

I can't connect to Edmini via LAN nor USB. LAN computer doesn't detect then I tried to check edmini from browser then I get this message /www/cgi-bin/public/sharelist: line 246: cannot create temp file...

Just contact www.lacie.com great support. there answer for my drive was to upgrade the drive version and to reboot the drive. Maybe the last thing is enough. For me it worked.

If necessary update driver http://www.lacie.com/nl/support/drivers/driver.htm?id=10156

Follow the procedure below to reset the Network Space to factory defaults:
  1. Move the power switch to the OFF position. Wait for the drive to shut down.
  2. Turn ON the drive.
  3. Within about 3 seconds, flip the switch OFF and On several times.
  4. Immediately turn it ON
If the light flashes quickly, the unit is resetting itself. Attempt to connect to the drive again after about 1 minute using the default username and password (by default, they are both admin.)

I have a external 2.5 sata hard drive to usb 2.0 it use to should up and now when I plug it it says hard drive not recogize. Did I lose all my informatiuon or is there a fix.

You can attempt to run a Command-line utility called CHKDSK. Check Disk will attempt to repair any misplaced or unreadable pieces of your hard-drive.

Two methods maybe required.
First running CHKDSK while in Windows:

Start > Run > Type "cmd" and hit enter.
Type N:\ (N is the drive letter assigned)
Type CHKDSK N:

If your drive is no longer receiving a drive letter it may be required that you attempt to mount the drive in an external OS, such as BackTrack3.

BackTrack is a free Live OS, Meaning it boot's and runs off of a CD. Simply download and burn the ISO (Disk Image) and then when booting your computer follow the instructions on your screen for your Boot Options Menu and Select Boot From CD.

Once booted, Plug in your drive and BT should recognize it. If it can be recognized, you will be able to attempt to repair, or at the least should be able to bring your data over.

***In the event that your drive is physically failing, and to be safe, please prioritize what your going to attempt to save before attempting this and work as quickly as possible.
Get BackTrack3 here:
http://www.remote-exploit.org/cgi-bin/fileget?version=bt3-cd

While the BT method may seem like a long and tedious process, its important to note that aside from actually replacing the electronics inside your drive, this is about the only way you can get your data back.

I wish you the best in this endeavor.

If you have any questions please let us know. If this information was helpful to you, please take a moment to rate the solution. Thank you.

I had exactly the same problem, no access to the windows media server - the no space message - and all my users missing from the user tab.

Following up from gogogo123's comment, we simply cleared the log and it was fine. I can only assume that there is an internal file size limit on the log file, and if it can't write your actions to the log then it doesn't do them!
