MY AMP SU-Z600 AS RCA JACKS tape rec out extplayback & the EQ has tape rec out /playback how do they interconnect

Normally the turntable is connect to the amp via phono inputs on back (RCA connectors) the tape out to equalizer and equalizer out to tape in on amp. The equalizer does not have phono preamp. The equalizer may not clean up record scratches ,or pops or record track noise.

You have to use the TAPE 2 (or monitor) on the receiver. It will take two sets of RCA cables. Both the receiver and the EQ will have an input and an output.

• Run the output/REC (from TAPE 2) to the input on the EQ.
• Then, run the input from the receiver (TAPE 2 again) to the output on the EQ.

The EQ will have another 2 sets of RCA jacks to hook up a second tape deck (because you used the jacks on the receiver for the EQ). You don't have to hook anything to these if you don't want to, or don't have a second tape deck.

The receiver will have a monitor button, which most of the time is labeled as TAPE 2/MONITOR. Select whatever input you want to use (CD, Tuner, Aux, etc.), then press the MONITOR/TAPE 2 button. When that is on, the EQ will be in the audio chain - you'll be able to use the EQ to adjust the sound. If you turn the MONITOR off it will take the EQ out of the audio chain - the EQ settings won't affect the sound.

Keep in mind, the EQ will also have a button to select the TAPE 2 input. If you have a second tape deck hooked up to the EQ, this is how to use it. Make sure that the tape input is off on the EQ, if you aren't listening to that second tape deck.

Turntable leads go to Phono.
Turntable ground lead (thin black wire) goes to screw terminal next to 'Phono'

CD phono cables go (unsurprisingly) to the CD

Cassette deck "Play Out" cables go to 'Tape Playback' sockets.
Cassette deck "Rec In" cables go to 'Tape Rec Out' sockets.

EQ Line Out cables go to amp's VCR/EQ Playback
EQ Line In cables go to amp's VCR/EQ Record Out

Connect amp Tape Playback to deck Line Out.
Connect amp Tape Rec Out to deck Line In.
Play your favourite cassettes.

My first try would be:

Tape Out (amp) to Line In (EQ)
Tape In (amp) to Line Out (EQ

To kick in the EQ, you have to press the Tape Monitor switch on your amp. With the switch pressed, signal goes through the EQ, back to the amp and out the speakers. With the switch out, it bypasses the EQ.

If that doesn't work, you could try the Tape in and Tape Out on the EQ substituted for the above Line In and Line Out on the EQ

As you probably know, the Bose 901 Active EQ is there to modify the frequency spectrum fed to the 901's so they will produce a flat response. Without it, they sound acceptable in the midrange but lacking in bass. Since they have no woofers or tweeters, the modification is drastic and should never be applied to non-Bose-901 speakers or they could be damaged.

This setup should work for mixing and playing but I'm not sure if recordings directly from the unit's REC Out or Line Out would have the Active EQ effect on them. You'll need to perform a few tests to see how it all works for playback AND recording.

Remove the jumpers for Pre In >> Out

Insert the Active EQ in their place by running:

1. RCA cables from Pre Out to the Active EQ In (From Aux, Tape Out)
2. RCA cables from the Active EQ Out (To Amp, Tape In)

Use ONLY 901's on this amp with the EQ.

The Bose Active EQ has its own Tape Rec/Monitor loop to replace the one it normally occupies in a typical receiver application, so if you wish to record your mix you should use those connectors for your tape deck and there will be no problems with the Active EQ effect being recorded. The Monitor Tape/Source switch on the EQ functions just like a typical Tape Monitor. For playback of the recording, switch it to Tape.

doesn't get into any detail on the innards of the mixer.

In a typical integrated amp or receiver, the jumpers removed are between the Preamp Output and the Main Amp input, but BEFORE the amp's volume and tone controls, so manipulating them would not affect a recording. You should experiment with it by making recordings through both and adjusting speaker volume to see if it changes.

I would be curious to know what the functional difference is between the designated LINE Out, REC Out and PRE Out jacks in that regard. Normally, Line Out and REC Out will not vary with amp volume, but I expect in this mixer it does, or you wouldn't be able to control the volume from it. Experiment.

Of course, you probably want the mixed effects to be recordable, so I assume they'll appear at all outputs. Play back the test recording (at an initial low level, just in case) and see if you can detect an exaggerated low end (due to the 901 bass boost being applied in recording AND playback through the 901's. If the recording volume doesn't vary with speaker volume and the playback sounds as flat as the recording you're good to go.

If there is are volume variations or an additive effect, you may have to draw the REC Out to the deck's input and run the deck's output to the Tape In on the 901 Active EQ, monitoring only on deck playback.

An EQ (equalizer) is generally connected between the low level output of a device (phono, CD, DVD, etc.,) and the amplifier's input. If you choose to place the EQ at this point, only the device connected will be equalized. All the other sources will be unaltered.

A more complete way is as follows:

Some amplifiers have a jacks labeled Left & Right "PRE OUT" and Left & Right "AMP IN" with a heavy gauge wire or strap that connects the left AMP IN & left PRE OUT together; and the right AMP IN and right PRE OUT together. Removal of the wire or strap will cause the amp to fall silent, as the low level signal no longer has a path from the PRE OUT to the AMP IN jacks. If you were to insert the EQ here, the path would be restored - but allowing you to boost or cut the level of certain frequencies BEFORE they are amplified. This is accomplished by connecting PRE OUT to EQ IN and EQ OUT to AMP IN for both the left and right channels.

As I mentioned, only some amps have these PRE OUT and AMP IN jacks - many however do not. In this case, you may be able to use the TAPE MON jacks. The TAPE MON is the Tape Monitor and appears on most "half-way decent" receivers. These jacks were provided to enable listening to a tape in nearly "real time" as it was being recorded on higher end "3 head" tape recorders. If you don't have a "3 head" tape deck (most do not), you can use these jacks the same as the PRE OUT and AMP IN jacks above. This is accomplished by connecting the TAPE OUT to EQ IN and the EQ OUT to the TAPE IN for both the left and right jacks. You would then select the source of the music - be it CD, Phono, etc. and with the EQ powered, pressing the TAPE MON button on the receiver, you could hear the difference between the EQ in the circuit and the EQ out of the circuit.

The key in the examples above is that there is always an input connected to an output. Don't connect inputs to inputs and outputs to outputs. Take your time and work one cable at a time - one end to an input and the other to the corresponding output.

Some situations may arise if using Dolby Digital, THX, etc. type input signals. Sometimes it is not possible to equalize them. If you have sources (DVD, Satellite Receivers, etc.) that have an optical or coaxial connection, those will be the ones that may have undesired affects. The familiar RCA type jacks for left and right signals should work perfectly.

Yes, it is a little tricky...

1) CD Changer (output) -> CD input on Amp

this is tricky... this will allow you to record to your tape deck, and control the sound via the EQ:
2) Tape Deck (tape out / recout) -> TAPE PLAYBACK on EQ
3) Tape RecOut on EQ -> Tape 1 Playback on Amp
4) Amp Tape 1 RecOut -> Tape Deck Playback / Input / RecIn
in essence, your creating a loop starting from the tape deck, going to the eq, then to the amp, then back to the tape deck to record.

Your EQ has another set of LINE IN and LINE OUT - use the second Tape 2 on the amp to create another loop. This will
allow you to control the EQ for any of the other sources.
5) LINE IN on EQ -> Tape 2 RecOut
6) Tape 2 Playback on Amp -> LINE OUT on EQ

5) Radio Tuner (output) -> Tuner input on Amp
6) DVD/VCR Combo Output -> AV/AUX on Amp

7) PC Computer... you don't have room for this. You can either use the PHONO input, and you'll have to purchase a Line Level Phono Converter
or, get a Y cable and split the signal and share with some other source.

On the back of your Marantz MR-235 you will find the RCA phono jacks marked Tape 1 Monitor Output these connect to the jacks labeled input on your EQ 140. The corresponding jacks labeled Tape 1 Monitor Input connect to the jacks labeled output on the EQ 140.

To EQ all audio sources you'll need to have a receiver/amp with either a tape monitor loop or a pre amp-in/main-out loop. Look for a button on the front labelled 'Tape Mon' or ins and outs on the back labelled pre amp-out/main-in. If you have these you can connect the outs from the amp to the ins on your EQ and then EQ outs go back into the amps ins. If you have a tape deck as well, the EQ's 'tape mon' jacks replace the ones it takes up on the amp, so just plug your tape deck in here.

Just remember that whether you have a tape deck or not, if you hang an EQ off the 'tape mon' loop you'll have to engage the 'tape mon' button/switch for playback with EQ.

If your amp doesn't have these loops you can still use EQ but you may be restriced to one audio component source. So say you wanted to EQ the playback from your CD player, you'd just connect the CD players output into the EQs input, then connect the EQ's output into the amplifiers input (for CD player). Then everything you play through the CD player will be EQ'd.
