96 camaro idles at 3000 rpms. changed iac,tps,map, coolant sensors, ignition mod and ecm. checked for vacuum leaks. will come down if tps is disconnected. cheched wiring for burnt or broken wires, still idels at 3k. any ideas

2002 Chevy express 4.3 engine stalling out and runs rich.

It seems like the problem lies with the engine management system, rather than the brakes. Given that you've already replaced the MAF, MAP, and TPS sensors, here are some other things to check:

1. Vacuum leaks: Inspect all vacuum lines for cracks or damage that may be causing a leak. A vacuum leak can cause erratic idling, poor acceleration, and stalling.

Your going to have to do some wiring tracing. You need an ohm meter. Since you still get a reading with the tps unplugged, you have a shorted wire or the ECM could be bad. The ECM is under the air filter. Unplug them both and check the wires for short to each other. The ohm meter shouldn't show a reading. If it does, you found the problem. Also check those wire for short to ground. Since the map sensor is right there I would also check the tps wires to the map wires for a short. Again there should be any readings. If all the wires check OK, then I would be looking at an ECM replacement.

Description & Operation

Not for Dodge Stratus Sedan
The idle air control motor (IAC) attaches to the throttle body. It is an electric stepper motor. The PCM adjusts engine idle speed through the idle air control motor to compensate for engine load, coolant temperature or barometric pressure changes. The throttle body has an air bypass passage that provides air for the engine during closed throttle idle. The idle air control motor pintle protrudes into the air bypass passage and regulates airflow through it.
The PCM adjusts engine idle speed by moving the IAC motor pintle in and out of the bypass passage. The adjustments are based on inputs the PCM receives. The inputs are from the throttle position sensor, crankshaft position sensor, coolant temperature sensor, MAP sensor, vehicle speed sensor and various switch operations (brake, park/neutral, air conditioning).

When engine rpm is above idle speed, the IAC is used for the following functions:


Off-idle dashpot Deceleration air flow control A/C compressor load control (also opens the passage slightly before the compressor is engaged so that the engine rpm does not dip down when the compressor engages)

Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disconnect the IAC electrical connector.
  3. Remove the IAC mounting screws.
  4. Remove the IAC.

To Install:
  1. Install the IAC to the throttle body.
  2. Tighten mounting screws to 5.1 Nm (45 inch lbs.) torque.
  3. Attach electrical connector to the IAC.
  4. Connect the negative battery cable.

Have a 96 camaro 3.8 V6 engine that on start up revs up over 3000 rpms and doesn't rev back down already replaced throttle body sensor any suggestion?

Did you check for vacuum leaks? Get a can of some flammable brake cleaner and start spraying it near all of the vacuum lines and see if it idles down. Also spray it around the intake when you hit the right spot it should idle down. Then you know where your problem is.

I have experienced this problem on similar vehicles. You should try and replace the coolant temp sensor. If it is not reading the correct temp to the ecm, it will not get the right fuel map. Also, the cts will not always throw a code.
