Get your instruction manual or find the instruction manual online... there are 2 plastic screws on the back at the base of the unit, unscrew them. Then pull the silver front plate (on the silver base) away from the tv unit(it is attached with magnents). there's the bulb unit.

The front comes off, you can see the parts.

I need to replace the bulb. Do I need to order the bulb only or bulb+housing. where is the bulb located on the back of tv? Thanks for the help

If you are looking at the back of the TV look on the left hand side to see if there is a access panel on that side of the TV - open it up and you will see the light bulb housing - take it out and look to determine whether you think you can replace the bulb by yourself or if you need assistance - I will say this most of the LGs are not soldered on they are put on using a small nut and they are easy to replace - 1 note is to order just the bubl if you think you can replace it yourself but DO NOT remove the bad bulb from housing until you get the new bulb so you can see how to hook up the new bulb :-) plus it usually takes about a week to get the new bulb in and sometimes people tend to forget how things were taken apart :-) Good Luck you will save money if you order only the bulb!

hello. it sound's like you need to replace the lamp in your set. and here is how to do it the right way. rember to all ways unplug your set.. # 1 first. .Remove the outside lamp cover. The lamp cover is located on the right side of the Sony television. To remove the lamp cover, simply pull down. You will now have access to the lamp housing. # 2 Open the lamp housing door by turning the locking handle counterclockwise while pulling the door toward you # 3 Pull the lamp unit straight out of the television unit. Be sure not to touch the bulb, as it may still be hot. # 4 Slide the replacement bulb into the lamp housing. # 5 The lamp will slide securely into place.!!! "Do not" touch the new bulb as it will cause damage to the bulb and result in malfunction. # 6 Push the lamp door back into place. Turn the locking knob clockwise to secure the door in place.# 7 Slide the outside lamp housing cover back into place on the television.!!! plug your set back in to the wall & The television is now ready for use. thank you

Turns on and off then back on then off

Discovered bulb had blown out.
At power on button, red light and green light flashed and no picture was present. I opened side panel after unplugging tv and let the bulb housing cool, then removed the bulb and discovered it had blown. Luckily I had a replacement bulb from the purchase, replaced it and it worked again.

I have an akai Pt46Dl10 the picture wont come on i have sound

if this happened after you replaced the bulb its because it is the wrong bulb. there are 2 bulbs for this tv; a J and a Z (have to look at your serial number on the back of the TV in the middle. if it ends in a Z you get the Z bulb, J get a J bulb) If you haven't replaced the bulb, that could be the problem. take off the panel on the back of the TV (opposite side of the PC input) there are 6 screws, I used needle nose plyers to get them out. then after you get the back cover to the lamp off there are 2 stainless steel screws that need to be taken off the housing. Pull the housing out and check the bulb. if it is black it is no good. Make sure you put the back panel on properly again (knob on the cover facing down towards PC input) and screw it back in, or which I think that is the problem! GET THE RIGHT BULB!

How to change out blub

panel on the back of tv, opposite side of inputs. 6 screws takes a special screwdriver. I used needle nose plyers. once in the back, unscrew 2 stainless steel screws to take out black housing. has your bulb. make sure you have the serial number off the back of your TV at the end of your serial number you will find either a Z or J. DONT GET THE WRONG BULB! taking the bulb out of the housing is different. you can either take a drill with a small bit to get the nuts out, or purchase the screwdriver called a T-8 TROX screwdriver.

Lose picture 10-25 sec., keeps soud

I had the same problem with my set. the problem was with the lamp bulb. They don't teel you this, but when a bulb start to go, this can happen. Iuld turn my set on and it would work. After about 45 seconds, the picture would "turn off" (still have the sound). This would last for about 45 - 60 seconds and then the picture woudl come back, but then the cycle would stsart all over again. I took a chance and purchased a new bulb (I bought just the bulb, not the bulb and housing). I took out the current bulb and housing, replaced the bulb in the current housing, and put the bulb/house back in. Problem solved! (have not had the issue since). Hope this is helpful!

I'm assuming that you already have the housing out of the TV. If not remove the lamp cover panel (two phillips screws), Locate and unscrew the two chromed flat blade screws that hold the module in place and gently pull the housing out. Now locate the three locking tabs on the housing. There is a large one on the bulb face side, and two smaller ones on the mesh screen side near the handle end. Using a thin bladed screw driver, slide it under the curved edge next to each of the small tabs and gently pry up to pop the side cover off of the tabs. Rotate the back cover (three sided) so that the small tabs come clear of the rectangular holes in the cover. (It should pivot on the third tab). Now use the screw driver to gently pry the U shaped clip off and over the third tab. Once all three tabs have been released the back half should just slide back and off the front half. Reassembly is basically just sliding the back cover back on until the tabs lock into place. While the bulb is out blow all the dust out of all THREE screens (there is a small one next to the greyish metal plate).

Replace the bulb by removing all the internal screws necessary to release it from the housing, noting how everything goes back together, including which wire goes to which terminal (If your bulb does not come with new wires you'll have to swap them to the new bulb), and where the "UP" marking on the bulb goes. Drawing a picture or better yet taking a few pictures is a good idea. When installing the new bulb do not touch the bulb with your bare hands (use latex gloves). Supposedly the skin oils can cause the bulb to fail prematurely. Finally make sure that the wires do not touch the bulb and are as far away from it as possible after it is back together, if necessary open it back up and bend the wires to reposition them.

Ok, so you need an extra long drill bit. Put in the hole of the corners of the housing units and drill out the little screws. Then you have the take off the two screws attached to the bulb. Replace Bulb and put it back together the same way. It's best to use a magnetic bit or at least an extension that's magnetic to reach the screws. They are easy to take off, but will be harder to put on.
