My 4Gb Cruzer stopped being recognized on any computer last night. I put it in and it flashes once and never mounts. I called SanDisk tech support and they recommended calling LC Technologies to retrieve data.
I put a call into LC Tech and spoke with Ray, who was very friendly and all to familiar with this problem with the Cruzer. From what he told me the USB ports are highly unregulated at 5v and most likely the circuit board in the flash drive that allows for reading the data was damaged. He said the only option at this point was to send them the drive and they would pull the memory chip to try and recover any data. The bad news is that it comes with a $125 charge if they are successful on devices over 1Gb. He stated they had about a 80% recovery rate.

Good day. I have a memorex ultratravel drive USB 2.0 160GB. Everytime I connect to any computer I get the message:The pc does not recognize the USB device code 43. Please let me know what i can do. thanks...

Code 43 is the death code - the pc simply cannot communicate with the attached device because the device is not working. This means that the Memorex is dead . Since the electronics board inside it cannot be repaired or replaced it means that yo must buy a new one.

Educated guess
(assuming you are connecting to a PC with some version of WIndows, XP or greater):

Many PC's now a days allow booting from an external USB device. If you have this plugged in an on when you power the machine on you PC may be trying to boot from it.

You have two choices.

1) Do not plug the drive in to the USB port until the PC has booted and is completely up and running. Then make the USB connection and see if it is recognized by the PC (this is a good test in any event). It may take a few minutes for the default drivers to be loaded and installed.

-- or --

2) Go into the BIOS and disable booting from external USB devices. If #1 helps you out I would not bother with this option unless you know have experience working with the BIOS.

I am trying to trasfer a large amount of files from my macbook to a dell laptop. The mac will recognize the drive and i am able to backup and save files onto it, however when i plug the drive into the...

The problem most likely is the Dell does not recognize the MAC file format (HPFS), but the MAC will recognize the PC's FAT 32 file system.
First format the USB mass storage device using the Dell, format this device in FAT 32 not in NTFS because the MAC can read and write/copy PC format files but the Dell/PC cannot read MAC format files.
Then Safely remove this device, connect it to the MAC and copy the files onto this drive. When you connect this device to the Dell, you will be able to see the files.
Have fun.

My PC is not recognizing my WD Passport 120GB USB external drive. I used just few days ago and connected the usb cable to my computer and the WD Passport drive and not recognized on my 2 laptop and 2 other...

I have the 80GB WD passport and it suddenly stopped working one day.  The unit lights up but nothing else.  Finally I cracked the case open and found, as I suspected, that the drive is simply a SATA laptop drive with a SATA-to-USB conversion card built in.  I suspected that the card was **** so I disconnected it and used a USB hard drive adapter (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=3770&name=USB_Hard_Drive_Adapter) and I can read/write to the drive just fine.  Best part is that the adapter I use has its own power supply so I'm not pulling juice through the USB cable for a SATA drive.
Even though mine "works" again I don't recommend these drives to anyone.  They're just not sturdy enough or well designed.
