The console can be removed in a few different ways depending on your model number:

1. If the console has removable end caps, the caps lift off by prying on the top from the back of the washer. The cap will pull off towards you as you are facing the unit from the front of the washer. There will be a screw under each end cap that you will need to remove.

2. If the console does not have removable end caps, you will need to slide a putty knife under the front corner of each side and push in while lifting up. There is a retaining clip under each side that has to be released.

3. Some consoles have screws in the back that require removing before the entire panel will slide forward, then lift back.

Once the console has been released it will lift up and fold back over the back of the washer in its resting position. Use care not to stress the small plastic hinges that hold it on. They can break easily.

You should post back with your COMPLETE model number (located on a nameplate under along the wash tub opening under the lid) if you ruin into any difficulties. I hope this helps you.

PS Is there a reason why you are removing the console?

My kenmore model 110.28972890 will not agitate. Will not wash my clothes how do I get it to work?

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Kenmore-Parts/Washer-Parts/Model-11028972890/0582/0153200?pathTaken=

and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Newer model Whirlpool / Kenmore washers use a Lid Switch as a safety device. Unless the switch senses that the lid on the washer is closed, the washer will neither agitate nor spin.

Older models only used the switch during the spin cycle.

Try to bypass the Lid Switch by removing the Console and jumping the two outermost pins on the switch.

This is a Whirlpool PDF on how these washers operate. It has a diagram on jumping the switch as well as a detailed section on how the transmission works.

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

It also has a troubleshooting guide.

To bypass the switch, you only have to disconnect the power to the washer, tilt the console back, unplug the switch and using an short piece of insulated wire, jump the two outermost contacts on the connector coming from the console and plug the washer back in.

Following is a description of how to gain access to the console and how to remove the cabinet if necessary.

With the jumper in place, try to re-start the washer.

If it works, the Lid Switch is a relatively inexpensive part and only requires you to access the console and remove the cabinet.

It is a Kenmore 90 series The model number is (small) 110 (bigger next to it) 22902100 serial number: 2219941 type: 111 This was given to me. they said all it needed was a fuel fill sensor... what is that,...

I have no clue what a Fuel Fill Sensor is on a washing machine. HOWEVER,

See the Sears Parts site for your washer with diagrams of all major parts and components.

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=110.22902100&pathTaken=partSearch

Also see the Whirlpool / Kenmore Service manual for this type of washer.

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

Also see the following for how to access the console and remove the cabinet if necessary.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=131&osCsid=fdfb6e4cb03bc063c74b1096fca5a7cd

By determining what the washer WON'T DO, you should be able to determine (also using the Whirlpool manuals' troubleshooting section) what part you need.

Clothes washer won't drain - digital display shows LD

looking at the tech sheet for this, it appears to be a standard whirlpool top load but with electronic controls, correct? normalling with this type a lid switch is the issue but the electronics would have a different code for this, LD is Long Drain for this model. suspect a transmission but this should help you troubleshoot. go to www.servicematters.com and click technical reference - tech library - tech sheets, enter model minus 110.prefix. this will show tech sheet with diagnostics. this book can also be found inside your console.
