Question about Propellerhead Reason 4.0 - Windows and Mac Upgrade Version for PC, Mac

1 Answer

Launching problem Reason 4

I installed a reduced version of Windows to increase speed on my operationg system. When I installed reason 4 (that worked perfectly on my old, "full" windows) I can't start it. The installation seems to do ok, but when I try to launch the program I get the error "File not found" "The operation could not be completed because a file could not be found"

I guess there's some process or service missing in my windows installation, but I'm unable to figure out which one.

When i click on the reason 3.0 icon it says unable to open because of an unexpected error plz help

Hello,
Reason 3.0 is quite old now and may not be supported by some current OS configurations. Your best bet would be to uninstall it, reinstall and before launching the program, update it to the latest revision release from: http://www.propellerheads.se/download/updates_reason3/index.cfm?fuseaction=displaymain
You may also have to right click the icon and select compatibility mode and set it to windows XP if running it on a PC. If you are using the MAC version, about all you can do is make sure you are running the latest revision.
Being you have an older version, you should be able to get a discount when ordering the latest online. Version 5 is packed with new features, I love it!
Regards, Chris

How to Speed Up Your Computer Right Now

Take control of your computer. If you're running Windows XP, learn the easiest way to speed it up.

The process below is a bit long and technical. The quick speed method using software is here on http://digitalpowering.blogspot.com/2010/04/how-to-fix-registry-errors-and-optimize.html

Also access the MICROS FT PAC OF SOFTWARE HERE for fast speedong up computer

  1. Step 1
  2. Switch to Classic Mode:
    a. Right-click the desktop
    b. Select "Properties"
    c. Find where it says "Theme:" Underneath this, click the drop-down arrow, and select "Windows Classic"
    d. Click "OK"

Reason: Takes less CPU power and RAM

  3. Step 2Disable Visual Effects:
    a. Click "Start"
    b. Click "Control Panel"
    c. Double-click the "System" icon
    d. Click the "Advanced" tab
    e. Under "Performance," click "Settings"
    f. Click the "Adjust for best performance" option
    g. Click "OK"
    h. Click "OK"

Reason: Takes less CPU power and RAM

  4. Step 3Defragment the Hard Drive:
    a. Double-click "My Computer"
    b. Find the "C" drive, and right click on it
    c. Select "Properties"
    d. Click the "Tools" tab
    e. Click the "Defragment Now" button
    f. At the top, the "C" drive should be highlighted
    g. Click the "Defragment" button

Reason: Increases speed at which files are accessed
  5. Step 4If you have one hard drive installed, perform this step. If you have two hard drives installed, skip this step and go to Step 5.

Make Sure Virtual Memory is Set to "System managed size:"
    a. Click "Start"
    b. Click "Control Panel"
    c. Double-click the "System" icon
    d. Click the "Advanced" tab
    e. Under "Performance," click "Settings"
    f. Click the "Advanced" tab
    g. Under "Virtual Memory," click "Change"
    h. Make sure the "System managed size" option is selected
    i. Click "Set"
    j. Click "OK"
    k. Click "OK"
    l. Click "OK"

Reason: Gives the OS as much virtual RAM as it needs
  6. Step 5If you have two hard drives installed on your system, move the paging file to the second hard drive:
    a. Follow steps "a" through "g" of Step 4
    b. Make sure the "C" drive is highlighted at the top
    c. Click the "No paging file" option
    d. Click "Set"
    e. Click "OK"
    f. Click "Change"
    g. Make sure the second hard drive is highlighted at the top (The "C" drive shouldn't be the one highlighted. It might be called "D" or "E")
    h. Select the "System managed size" button
    i. Click "Set"
    j. Click "OK"
    k. Click "OK"
    l. Click "OK"
    m. Restart your computer so the changes can take effect

Reason: Offloads the virtual memory onto the other hard drive, allowing the main hard drive to work faster.
  7. Step 6Disable Hard Disk Indexing:
    a. Double-click "My Computer"
    b. Right click on the "C" drive
    c. Select "Properties"
    d. Uncheck the box that says "Allow Indexing Service to index for fast file searching"
    e. Click "OK"

Reason: Hard drive is accessed less often, making it faster (note this comes with the price of making file searches slower. If you use the search box frequently, you may want to leave this checked. Otherwise, uncheck it.)
  8. Step 7Determine What Version of Internet Explorer You Have:
    a. Open Internet Explorer
    b. Select "Help," and then "About"
    c. The version number is listed under the IE logo. If you have version six, go to Step 8. If you have version seven, go to Step 9.
  9. Step 8Delete Useless Files in IE 6:
    a. Click "OK"
    b. Select "Tools," and then select "Internet Options..."
    c. Click "Delete Cookies"
    d. Click "OK"
    e. Click "Delete Files"
    f. Click "OK"
    g. Click "Settings"
    h. Click "View Files..."
    i. Highlight and delete all the files
    j. Close the window, and click "OK"
    k. Click "Clear History"
    l. Click "Yes"
    m. Click "OK"

Reason: Time isn't wasted loading old, unwanted files
  10. Step 9Delete Useless Files in IE 7:
    a. Click "OK"
    b. Select "Tools," and then select "Internet Options"
    c. Select "Delete..." under the "Browsing History" section
    d. Click "Delete All"
    e. Click "Yes"
    f. Click "OK"

Reason: Time isn't wasted loading old, unwanted files
  11. Step 10Delete Useless Files in Firefox:
    a. Open Firefox
    b. Select "Tools"
    c. Select "Clear Private Data..."

The reason why you you cannot increase the resolution and bit color is because the generic video driver was installed.
You need to download and install the correct video driver.
You can download the motherboarddevice drivers from Intel WEB site. Select your model motherboard/device, andmake sure you select the Windows XP or Vista version of the drivers thatmatches your Windows operating system. Please click on this link andselect your model motherboard : - http://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx?iid=gg_support-au+home_downloadctr

Reason 4 install prob

If you installed Reason 4 and the first time it asked for the DVD and you did not have it, you may need to re-install it and then have the disc ready. This happened to me the first time, and I had to re-install the program. It's just part of the copy-protection.

Hope this helps!

Notes don't stop even after I release the key

The keyboard  is not sending a note off instruction after the key is released. Try checking midi preferences in reason. If your using a Mac check that the edirol is present by launching Audio MIDI Setup utility located in the utilities folder. You can download the latest Mac driver from Roland below: EDIROL PCR-300 32-key MIDI Keyboard Controller :: Download

Midi Trouble with Reason

It is possible that your PC is too slow, but there may
(of course) be other causes

I have experienced a situation with Adobe Audition, causing
recording drop-outs when my PC got too busy.

To test this theory:

1) Shut down all unnecessary applications.

2) Go to the command prompt and disable the internet:

type: IPCONFIG /release.

to restart it later, reboot the machine or type:
IPCONFIG /renew

3) Go to the task manager and stop all unnecessary
processes:

press: control-alt-del at the same time and then

choose the "processes" tab

right click on each process you don't need
and stop the process

4) You should be able to reduce the number of processes
into the low 20's, but you need to keep the following:

a) Your midi application (Reason etc) of course

b) alg.exe
csrss.exe
explorer.exe
lsass.exe
svchost.exe (all of them)
services.exe
smss.exe
system
system idle process
winlogon.exe

5) Now go into the control panel --> administrative tools ->
services and stop all unneeded services

(the system will not let you stop anything essential)

6) Don't worry about stopping tasks and services,
they will all restart to normal when you reboot the
machine.

7) Go back into the task manager and right-click your
midi-application. Increase its priority to HIGH,

but NOT real time, because this may cause windows
to hang.

8) If your midi acquisition improves, then speed is the problem,
otherwise, look elsewhere:

a) re-install audio and midi drivers
b) make sure the mixer and control applets are correctly
configured, i.e make sure the midi is not muted.
e) make sure the midi application is allocated the
max amount of memory, if it has a setting for it.

etc.

9) I am assuming that you are running Windows XP.

If your PC is too slow do NOT use Vista !!!!,
which makes things much worse, at least
by a factor of 4 to 1

Do not install XP service pack 3 either,
its bloated with anti-piracy **** and DRM.

10) Finally, for audio work, I would recommend
a minimum system with:

a) Pentium III 800 MHz or better yet a Pentium IV
at 1.5 GHz or faster.

b) One Gbyte of RAM to make sure your machine is not
disk bound. This is much more important than a fast
CPU.

Disk is approx. 10 million times slower than RAM,
so this can become a very significant bottle neck.

c) Windows XP pro, SP2 (not 3)

d) Depending on your video card, i.e. the amount of
workload it handles for the CPU, you may also reduce
the screen resolution, and disable desktop effects
to speed thing up.

Adobe audition, for example will perform more reliably
on slower CPU's when the GUI window is kept small
in waveform or spectrum display during recording.

Good luck,

Martin

P.S. I use Adobe Audition for most of my recording and
audio processing. System = Core 2 Duo /2.4 Ghz,
4 Gigs of RAM (only 3 Gigs are accessible from 32 bit
windows XP), 1300 Mhz front side bus, 3.5 Terra Bytes
of hard disk, of which 1.5 Terabytes are configured as
RAID-5.

Speed and storage is no longer an issue :)
not even for HD video processing.
