Hard to answer accurately without a make or model #
Sounds like its cutting out on out of balance spin control. This means that you either have too much or too little in the machine and it cant balance the load for the spin cycle. If your sure the water is draining out then try stopping the machine and opening the door and moving and seperating the clothes and put back on a spin only cycle. hope this helps

Its probably you stator plate and rotor. But you need special tools for this repair. There a spring that is under 200 pounds of pressure and if you take the screws off that hold the plate its going to fly into you face if your dont use the special tools to depress the spring. Is it more of a clanking kinda of noise? DOes it olnly happen with heavy loads? Try this out. Fill the washer with water only. and get it into a wash cycle with water only. If there is no noise then put in like a load of towels. A heavy load. Now if you hear the noise now then its for sure you stator plate and rotor..hope this helps, but like i said you need those special tools to do this repair or injury can result from the spring part.

Zoobs, you could have something stuck under the agitator. The agitator will pull straight off. Grip it on each side and pull up hard, but don't hit yourself in the face. If that don't work, try slipping a belt under it and pull. Check for something caught under it. Another possibility could be the nylon suspension rod socket supports in the back. They will make a noise during agitation if they are dry. Put a little 3 in 1 oil to quite them down. Take the front panel off and check the pulley and belt, see if anything is out of whack. I also often find the motor support hitting the bottom panel during agitation making noise. Take the front panel off and observe during agitation. See if the support is striking the bottom. If so, just bend the bottom panel down. Catriver..post back.
SOURCE: loud screaming sound during spin cycle
The screaming noise is probably from a dry bearing in the motor, it will probably come and go and shouldnt cause to much problem, they are supposed to be self lubricating but sometime they run dry.
