Ipod 1st generation doesnt show up on itunes & wont restore
Ok so one day i just got done downloading a bunch of songs on my ipodnano and when i took it out of the usb port a white screen popped up and said use itunes to restore in three different languages. So i plugged it into my computer and went into itunes and it wont even show my ipod icon on the left side where it usually is. And when i tried to restore it one day my computer froze up on me.
Okay i tried jail breaking my phone wiht ziphone.org it looked like it was happening and then it kept showing BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0.
thier was a whole list of it coming up more && more. I unplugged it and it still kept going. i tried refreshing it && it just starts all over. I want to restore it and it doesnt come up on itunes.
Re: ipod 1st generation doesnt show up on itunes & wont...
Ziphone is notorious for permanently bricking iphones...if you interrupted it when it was messing with your baseband you're screwed. As far as the nano goes, did you try disk mode yet?
plug in your ipod, flick the hold switch on then off again, then hole menu and select for 6 seconds till apple logo appears, then immediately hold down select and play/pause. this should bring up a checkmark with ok to disconnect. from there, you should be able to either immediately see it in itunes or format it with HFS+ or FAT32 depending on your OS. Good Luck...

You need to put songs on your iPod through iTunes. You need to have iTunes installed on your computer. It's a free download from Apple. Load your CD's into iTunes or buy songs from the Apple iTunes Music Store. Connect your iPod and click (Restore). This will rebuild all the software on the iPod and restore your songs.
I don't know if you've already done this, but this sounds to me like a software issue on the IPOD. I also have one of these, and have had to do the following at least once due to lock up problems. Connect the IPOD to your computer, make SURE all the music you have on the IPOD is on your computer (because your IPOD is about to be wiped clean). Then, in ITUNES under your IPOD (whatever you named it) on the main screen should be a RESTORE function. Click on that, and follow the directions - this will wipe your IPOD clean, and restore all factory software and settings. Reload your music, and try it then - this usually works for me! :)
Good luck wit the IPOD! :)
You can try connecting it to another computer and see if it works there. If it does then it is Windows or your computer or the USB port or driver. You could also uninstall iTunes and reinstall it and then check if it connects. If it shows up then, you can select to restore it on the info screen, it will reset it back to factory and wipe it clean.
go to applications then utilities then open disk utility on the on the left side all the hard drives will be listed. click on your ipod then click erase, look here
click "erase" and then "ok". when it is done disconnect the ipod, open
itunes and reconnect the ipod. itunes will tell you the ipod is
corrupted and i needs to restore it. click ok and then wait for it to
complete the restore.
PC: go to start, my computer. in the
new window your ipod's name will apear right click then click format.
make sure that quic format is checked and then click "ok". when it is
done disconnect the ipod, open itunes and reconnect the
ipod. itunes will tell you the ipod is corrupted and i needs to restore
it. click ok and then wait for it to complete the restore.
Try these options i got them from apple when my ipod dident work trying a new port and reinstalling itunes worked for me
1)Reset your iPod.
2)Retry with a different USB or FireWire port.
3)Restart your computer and make sure you have the latest software updates installed.
4)Remove iTunes software and then reinstall iTunes software from latest versions on the web.
5)Restore your iPod. See ?Updating and Restoring iPod Software? in the user's guide.
