I get a dialling tone on my Soundpoint Pro but just the numbers keys sound and it wont actaully make teh call

Pulse dialing is a holdover from Rotary phones, which when the rotor is turned and let go, counts out the number you entered in clicks on the telephone line. Pulse, or DTMF (Dual-tone multi-frequency), uses two overlaid tones (one for row and one for column) to signify a button press.

Follow these steps :
1.1
Press the function (FCN) button on the handset while on a call and then press the number "2" button. This will place the call on hold and you will hear a dial tone.
2.2
Call the number or extension of which you want to transfer the call.
3.3
Push the FCN button on the keypad and then the number "2" button and immediately transfer the call. You do not need to wait for the other party to answer.

this is beause the dialling tone was muted. Go to your phone setting and increasee the volume of your key pad tone.

I have a polycom soundpoint pro SE-225. when i either pick up the hand set to make a call OR press the speaker button to make a call i get a dial tone for a few seconds, then the dial tone jumps up and gets real loud for a few seconds and then goes completely away and will not let me make any calls. Any ideas what the heck is wrong??

try format your phone..by using this key *#7370#..lock code 12345.

1. Press the MENU key.
2. Select SETTINGS and press the OK key.
3. Select DIALMODE and press the OK key. The current setting is displayed.
4. Select TONE or PULSE.
5. Press the OK key to confirm.

you hit the speaker button on the left side of the phone and the pad shows up...

Change the dialing font style to Normal and then set off keypad tones on setting menu.

Press both buttons at once to unmute the headset - you should hear two beeps, in ascending tone.
