Question about Video Game Consoles & Games

PS2 Slimline .... My PS2 is powering up ok, but is stopping at the Browser/System Configuration page. I am able to enter config and change time etc. The PS2 is making no attempt to read a disk. It is not giving any errors and is not running diagnose when set.

I had suspected that the disk drive was broken, is the disk drive protected by a fuse that I can check ?

You can try first resetting the console this how you do it:

There is a small black plastic rectangle on the bottom of the L-shaped reset/power board that needs to face forward and down line that black rectangle up with the clear black window on the front of the system. (The clear black window is located on the lower right side opposite where the controller ports are.)

The ribbon will be facing out the backside of the L, and plugs into the cream connector on the motherboard approx 3/4" to the left, and up slightly. The long part of the L should be resting in a slim groove on the plastic case of the system - to the upper right of the clear plastic window. There is a tiny black lever (which is the reset switch) that should be facing upward.

Hope that helps..........

Hold the power button for at least 5 seconds. that should reset all memory.

if that does not work, use a lens cleaner.

check if the disk spins when you close the lid. if it does not, check your lid for any bent sticks.

Does any disk work in the device? dvds`? games?

  • Ekse Aug 07, 2008

The last time I had a ps2 (normal version) apart I did not see any fuses.

Its connected with a few cables into the bigger mainboard. Im not sure if replaceing the lens would do the trick, but that debends if there is a circuitboard level problem with some components of the disk drive.

Assumeing that your ps2 is otherwise in good condition replaceing the whole drive would be the best shot. if the disk doesn't spin at all it may also be that the motor inside the drive has failed, if it does spin? the lens may be faulty or just dirty and in that case cleaning the lens would solve the problem.

Its difficult to say what the problem may actually be without actually inspecting the console.

I think this requires some testing and would recommend haveing it examed by a local professional.

You would need to log into the embedded webserver to view the configuration page. From there you could screen capture it as I do not believe that the print config page was added until later models.

Ps2 syas browser or system configuration when i

Is the time accurate or is it off? There is a battery in the consoles that keep the time and other system settings updated when the console is off or unplugged. Over time the battery gets drained. So on older machines when you power it on, the PS2 sees that its time is off or otherwise thinks it is being turned on for the first time and makes you do the inital setup. The solution? You can try cracking open the PS2 and replacing the battery. Don't ask where the battery is located at inside it because it varies from version to version of the motherboard in the PS2. But if you search the forums, some locations have been suggested.

Browser shows no data on PlayStation 2 Console

I am having the same problem with my PS2, but I have an HDD inside of mine. I am told this is a circuit problem inside the PS2 that doesn't allow the information to be transfered to the RAM. That's why you see “No Data” instead of the usual problem of “Disc Read Error”. I hate to say it, but it sounds like you are going to have to do the same thing I am about to do. Send it in to Sony and get it repaired.

I am also pretty sure this PS2 you are talking about is the large fat one, and not the slim one.
