Question about Acer PD523 Multimedia Projector

1 Answer

Connecting to laptop

Until recently I had no problem connecting my Dell Laptop to the PD523. We had an interactive whitboard installed which necessitated moving the projector. As the technician was making finishing touches attaching the projector, I initiated the proceedure to connect it to the laptop - i.e. pressed Fn F8. The laptop's desktop image appeared for a few seconds on the whiteboard, then disappered leaving just the ACER logo thing. Nothing I could do with Intel Graphics media accelerator would force it to work. A Tech person unversed in projectors worked on my laptop, reinstalled graphics software and fiddled with settings. We got it to give a flickering image. We then put the laptop into safe mode and things seemed to go right. Connection was re-established. The problem now is that I can only get the projector to work when the display settings for multiple display have the notebook screen resolution on 800x600 pixels and the monitor disply on 1024x780. This is inconvenient - I don't like the low resolution on the laptop and it means that a screen-full if material on my Interwrite desktop lessons do not all appear on the whiteboard. Any attemp to change notebook resolution while using the projector results in the projector reverting to search mode and not finding the laptop image.
And by the way, why doesn't the projector give yellow (this problem was around before the bigger one). I would be eternally grateful for a solution, Rick Wood, Teacher, New Zealand

I actually tried this solution before it was posted and it did work so thanks anyway. BUT, unbelievably, when I try to connect to a similar projector in a different room the same problem occurs i.e. no image on the screen. I tried all the same changes to settings and stuff that eventually worked on the first projector but to no avail. With some combinations of settings it will flicker on occasionally but then says "no signal". The projector works fine with other teachers' laptops. I tried standing on a chair on a desk and using a shorter serial cable to connect the laptop to the projector and it did work, but it's not a feasible way to teach a class! Why would my computer differ from others' in this respect and why would it suddenly start happening when it worked fine before??? Help

Try changing the refresh rate on your graphics drivers to 60 or 70 hz on both your laptop screen and the projector. Do this at the desired resolutions as well.

Not connecting to laptop

I'm figuring that you are saying that nothing is on the scrren from your laptop.

Be certain that the VGA cable (from projector to laptop) is snug.

Look on your laptop for the key with the words CRT/LCD or an icon of a screen. Hold down the Fn key and that key and press once, and again, and again until the screen displays.

Hope this helps.
