Question about Dishwashers
I suspect this is nothing to do with switching off during the cycle.
take the bottom plate off and check if there is water leaked into the bottom pan. alternatively, if you can, tilt the machine back to 45deg and see if water runs out.
most machines have a float switch in the base so that if water leaks, all that will happen is that the drain pump runs and i think this is what you are hearing

Forget the float - as long as its not raised then its ok
can you hear the drain pump running or can you hear a low hum when supposed to be draining?
