Question about 2wire HomePortal 1000HW DSL Modem and Network Router -1000-400210-000_LN_R (1000400210000LNR)

DSL connection I have DSL service through AT&T. For about 2 weeks I had connection on and off, I would be connected for a few minutes and suddenly the connection would drop. The last 2 weeks no connection at all. Speaking with the AT&T "techs" gets me no where, they just want to send someone out and charge me!!! I checked the phone line by connecting a phone and the line works ok. I took the CPU to a friends house and connected the computer to his DSL with no problem,which tells me the Ethernet card is OK. I'm thinking there is something wrong with the modem, both the Internet and Activity lights don't light up. I tried re-setting the modem, still not working. Is there any way to "repair" a modem to avoid purchasing a new one? Any other suggestions of what could be wrong? THANKS!!!

Wow, that router is at least 4 years old. I have not seen a working 2wire 1000hw for about 2 years. I would purchase an aftermarket modem at best buy or off of ebay if you want to go cheap. I have worked for ATT for about 10 years. Hope this helps

1. Call DSL provider verify service is active. They should be able to ping their DSL modem.
2. If good service, plug your pc directly into dsl modem. If youre able to connect, then the router is bad. Youll need a new one.
3. If I read this wrong, and its the dsl modem that is not connecting, AND the service says its working, then it maybe the dsl network port has failed. In which case report it to your service provider and they should replace the unit for you.
4. You can try to unplug and replug the network cables, all of them. Or try different ones. Its just possible you are getting a poor connection at the wire terminator.

Where i can connect internet line?


To connect to the Internet you need a few extra things aswell as a network card.
1. You need to sign up with an Internet service provider.
2. Connect a LAN cable from your computer to the DSL or cable modem
3. You need a DSL or cable modem and connect and configure the modem to inaccordance with your Internet service provider's instructions.
4. Install Internet Explorer if it has not been done.
5. If everything has been done correctly, when you open Internet Explorer youcan access the Internet.

DSL status LED is not on. After an ISP problem the DSL status LED is not on. ISP told us to power off the router for ten minutes. After re-powering the router DSL status LED is not on.


Two problems,
1 - The power adaptor of the DSL Router is not working,
2 - the Telephone cable is not connected properly
3 - If it's a cable modem then the cable is not connected properly
4 - Check with you service provider if he's made changes in the exchange and if you need a new DSL router.
Your DSL service provider should be able to solve this issue.

We had a storm and since then I cant connect to the internet...the connection's good but I cant connect (tried IE and firefox-neither worked)


You should try unplugging your router and cable / dsl modem for a few minutes, then reboot your computer.

That's the first and easiest way of fixing it.

Do you use DSL for your connection?

DSL uses a phone line for the connection, and therefore if your ISP doesn't detect activity after a few minutes, it will drop the line. There is a setting called "keep alive" in your router which will automatically either redial or 'ping' your ISP to make sure this doesn't happen. It's in the basic setup screen; if you're using DSL enable it and set it to 1 minute.

Blinking light on the DSL modem.


Unfortunately it sounds like the modem may need to be replaced. I had the same issue. Even after doing a complete shutdown, resetting all the cables, restarting the modem and then the computer, it still did not work. After you get the modem replaced, I would suggest you get a spare, possibably from e-bay, so if this happens again, you will not be without DSL Service.

Hi. I will not repeat the check the phone line and resetting comments as it's now redundant.

I always have a spare modem as a line tester.

I've seen several 2700HG-B 2wire modem/routers burn out and every single time it's the DSL signal or modem portion that is burnt out. Even if you have two or three phone line surge protectors these 2700s are prone to shorting out unless you have a direct signal splitter DSL setup.

Here are a few things you can try to confirm if the 2700 is no longer functional on the DSL signal light problem.

#1: Turn on (plug in) your 2700 without the phone line plugged in and wait. If the DSL starts flashing red then there is a hardware problem in the modem/router.

#2: Plug the phone line into the 2700 while the dsl light is flashing red. It might take about 3 seconds however it should start to flash green and let it flash for about (usually) three minutes. If it turns red then the 2700 is indeed damaged.

#3: If you can enter into your modem using the http://2wire... and check the connection status. The first two status lines should read attempting to connect and no connection.
