Self-Cleaning Failuare on Kenmore Electric Range

I'm in a new (to me) house with a Kenmore 911.9358810 electric range. It's a Roper manufacturer with GE parts, from what I have read. When I push "clean" in the control panel, the display flashes "door" but there is no sound that the door lock/latch is moving. The display will continue to flash until I hit "cancel". There is a part called a self-cleaning switch, and there's also a self-cleaning assembly that one can purchase. I have not looked further yet, but would be interested in how one would troubleshoot this problem. It's definitely old(er) technology. Dan

The instructions don't tell you anything to help i have read them for what seems like hours. My brother in law and I keep hitting the clean button, and it flashes "clean door" until i hit cancel. I don't know if that means i need to clean the door before it will work or what. Obviously i feel pretty stupid. But any help on how to work the "self cleaning" on this oven would be appreciated!!!!!

It appears your timer/main controller/CCU CLOCK has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question

Got F40 error code self-cleaning my 790.9642 Kenmore range

try this, after several calls I finally found out what the code meant. code meant. Power supply issues, not necessarily with your power supply but with the appliance2_bing.gif itself. Of course they want to send a technician for $65.00, which may be worth the headache. All someone told me was to turn off the power braker for 2 hours and try again. Yeah right, after 2 hours of heating your house and paying the electric bill, but when breaker is off there will not be any electric used. code f40,

Want to open the door it was on self cleaning

An electric range, a Litton combo microwave and conventional kept the oven locked for 3-4 hours after the cleaning cycle and I think it is thermostatically controlled.

The temperature used to catalyse oven deposits is ~900 degrees F and takes a while to cool down.
