Hi! My Ranchilio silva has a tendency to sissle a lot when making the espresso. This affects the quality of the crema, first of all the crema-if any- is thin and bubbly. And there is a lot of spilling off coffee when making it. I know there is enouch water in the container and no air sucked into the machine. I clean the machine regularly and have tried to adjust the pressure. I know it has nothing to do with the grinding / coarseness of the coffee, because the water sissles also when I try to run it throug without coffee.
Can anyone help?
Annette
First of all, do you steam your milk first then immediately brew the shot? If so, that is your problem. When you depress the steam switch, the temperature elevates way past what is optimal for brewing espresso. If you try to brew immediately after steaming milk or using the hot water feature, that would definitely be why your espresso sizzles. Your shot will likely come out burnt tasting, thin and just plain rancid.
Either brew your shot first (learn temperature surfing for your best shots), or immediately after steaming milk, turn off the steam switch, depress the brew switch (without portafilter in place) for a few seconds until no steam comes out- only water (wait till you don't hear the sizzling sound). Hope this helps.

Can you supply a thermostat for a Rancilio Silvia? the one required is T3 in the wiring diagram, and is between the on/off switch and the heating element. In the diagram it is described as "thermostat 165º". The actual stat is marked "Ty 80-R Campini, 16/250~ T210. If available, please quote full price and postage, and terms. Thanks, Colin

Hi, last week I purchased the Rancilio Silvia Espresso Machine. For most of this time I have been having near perfect coffee. Today for some reason, the shot has poured way too quickly resulting in weak coffee. The grind appears to be fine, I have tampered it the same as I have over the past week, the only thing that seems to be happening is the water coming out too quickly. Can you see a solution to this promblem? thankyou.

I have a Rancilio Silvia about 2 years old. About 10 days ago I did a descale and backflush process, (very little came out) but now it is leaking from the right hand side when facing machine (but only when turned on) from the gap between the base and the body. I suspect it is the 3 way solenoid valve, but would like some advice before we attempt a repair. Is this a symptom of solenoid breakdown and is it a self repair job for a handyman husband?
