Question about Bosch HME9760 Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Bosch microwave HME9750

Well I had a friend over and she was trying to heat her tea in the above mentioned microwave and there was a pop and then it went dead. On the side of the microwave there is a sign to show that one should heat the cup with a spoon in it and not on its own...not sure what that means. But is this a blown fuse or is it dead? If it is a blown fuse, is that easy to fix (i.e. inexpensvie?)

Does the light come on when the door is opened, or is there any beep when you press a pad on the keypad?

It really sounds to me like your high voltage diode blew and the fuse went at the same time.

You can heat a cup of water with or without a spoon, as long as the spoon doesn't touch the sides of the microwave or any other internal surface.

The sighn with a spoon inside is to alert you to the dangers of delayed boiling this is were the liquid in a container is heated on the outside quicker than the inside when you remove the liquid and expose it to the ambient air in your kitchen the liquid can boil over scalding your hand it doesnt have anything to do with your friends cup of tea this is pure coincidence the pop is the internal safety fuse blowing will need attn from service tech to sort high voltage safety fuse blowing means inverter or mag faults.

I have a Roper over the range microwave and the unit popped while heating some food and I lost all power. The breaker is not thrown and the wall outlet is working?

It is more than a fuse, the magnetron has probably failed. When that pop sound is heard it is usually the above mentioned part which is the heart of the microwave oven.

I was heating my tea and I heard a loud pop and the unit turned off...I thought I had blown a fuse and went out and checked fuse box..flipped all fuses and microwave still not turning on at all...micorwave...

The description you provide indicates the magnetron has failed, "heats food" and blown the main fuse in the microwave oven, since the unit is 10 years old it is much cheaper to replace with a new one rather than have it repaired.

We have a model from 1999, JVM1420BB. Last night it popped popcorn and this morning it sounded like it was on but did not heat at all. It smelled like an electical shortage. Is it dead?

Probably not dead but the magnatron probably went out and this is the part that creates heat. You can Google the make and model number of your oven and search for the magnatron. There are a lot of them out there. You can also find instruction for changing them out yourself.

The button to push that turns the microwave on won't stay pushed

When you hold a button in you are bypassing the safety controls Marian. Microwave energy can be deadly so you are taking a chance here. I recommend you consider replacing the oven as the new ovens are cheap and have great features. Service on these units cost more than a new unit.

COINCIDENCE? Yes... :) So go buy another one, it'd probably be cheaper than getting the bad one repaired.
