SOURCE: how to make default tray

HP printers will default to the highest numbered tray that contains plain letter paper. So on a standard 3005 Tray 2 is the default unless you have the paper type set for something other than plain letter. If you have an additional tray, then Tray 3 would become the default tray if it is set to plain paper. In this case, you would set tray 3 to either bond or letterhead so that the printer would only grab from that tray if you request either tray 3 be used or create a job that calls for that type of paper.

If this does not sort it out, post back again with a complete description of the printer including number of trays, what is loaded in the trays and how they are set for both paper size and paper type. This information can be found by printing a configuration page. This is done by pressing the arrow key on the control panel until display reads information, press checkmark (green button) then use down arrow until Configuration page is displayed and then press checkmark again. Page will print that shows all the settings for the printer.

HP laserjet P3005n. Cannot get jobs to print from bypass tray (1)

It could be a flag issue or sensor issue but, you should always try the easy stuff first. Check to see if the manual feed is on. To do this:
Press the check mark and arrow down to configuration menu
Press the check mark and arrow down to printing menu
Press the check mark and arrow down to manual feed, highligt the on and press the check mark.

In this setting the paper (if present) should pull from tray 1 first.

Let me know if this resolved the issue, if not, we can try another test.

New HP Laser Jet P3005n is not printing and amber light is flashing, it's telling me that the printer is out of paper and it's full.

Hi,

I'm a certified technician. Paper sensor flag has come out of position. Did you have a jam that you had to clear before this problem or was the pick-up roller replaced recently? Even HP's service manual has the wrong pictures for replacing the tray 2 pick-up roller on this machine.

P3005n

tray 2 has a little piece of cardboard that can easily be overlooked. you'll probably have to pull it out by sticking your hand in the back of the printer, tray 2. can't be done from the front because the cardboard piece keeps tray 2 stuck, and gives paper jam errors.
