1 Answer

Internet problem I have LAN. An early morning storm caused my internet to shutdown. I called my cable company they told me everything on their end is working and my modem is working properly except the pc/activity light is offf. Was told to contact the computer guy, that it would be the ethnet. I have a Dell (Windows XP) that is approx. 5 yrs. old. Hope you can help. Thanks, Patricia

Well, without any other equipment to test with, you're kinda stuck with having someone check out your PC and/or cable modem by plugging them into something else.

The good news is, a PCI ethernet card is very cheap... so if it *is* dead, you could easily buy one yourself, and with a little experience, install it into the computer too!

Otherwise, there is not much you can do without being able to test the cable modem with another computer that has an ethernet port. (a friends laptop perhaps?)

Adsl wont stay on ,quick set up ,says cant find modem

Either the router is not connected properly to the modem, or the modem is not set up properly. First, unplug the router from the modem and disconnect power to both of them. Make sure the modem is connected to its data source, in this case the telephone line. Make sure the company has authorized the modem and make sure it's connected to the phone socket they specified, if they did. You should plug a CAT-5(ethernet) cable between the LAN port on the modem and the WAN port on the router. Now power on the modem. Wait until the modem's lights indicate it has a connection. If the modem doesn't indicate a connection, call your ISP. It will probably be as simple as them sending a refresh signal to it. After the modem finds a connection, power on the router. Your internet service should now be working. If not, try plugging the computer's network cable directly into the LAN port on the modem. If that computer then has internet, your problem is with the router. If the computer still doesn't have internet, then the problem is either with the settings on the computer or there's still a problem with the modem/ISP

LAN problem

If your network card works properly( you can check it using device manager- Right click on my computer icon -> manage)
check its ip address settings(TCP/IP setings). Make sure there are proper settings for dns.
Otherwise you can do a system restore.
May be an OS setting have caused the problem.
Hope your machine is virus free.
If there is a problem when you check device manager what you have to do is use *********** board cd and update/re install(after removing) the drive.

If any of these are not working, you may have to check your network adapter.

Please rate the answer if it works for or helps you.
Thanks Good Luck :)

Laptop Internet Connection

The LAN pc card on you laptop is not recognizing the connection to the router that's why you are getting an erro saying cable is unpluggged. Try to user a different ethernet cable or try the laptop to the modem check if you will still get the same error so that we'll know if its a fault with the lan card or if it's just with the cable.

Enthernet connection

Ethernet connection is a LAN or a CAT cable
One end of that cable will connect at the back of ur router box that u will have with u or u will get it from ur ISP .
and the other end of that cable goes to the back of ur pc in the jack which says LAN or try to plug it in any socket which fits properly.
u will a light that will start flashing at the back of ur back when u plug that cable in
to check whether u system supports ethernet connection or not
1. right click on my computer
2. goto properties
3. goto hardware
4. goto device manager
5. u will find network adapters there
click on the plus sign on the left side of network adapters
plus sign will change to minus
under network adapters look for an ethernet adapter or network controller
or 10/100 or 10/1000 fast ethernet NIC ( network interface card )
if u have one , then ur pc supports ethernet connection
U just have to connect the ethernet cabel to ur router box and at the back of ur pc and u just have to open internet explorer and ur internet would start working...
if u dont have ethernet cable with u or ur system does not have an ether net socket in ur system , u can goto any computer shop and get an ethernet cable and a socket for ur system
If u dont want to do that , u can go for a USB cable connection with ur pc or a wireless connection....
reply back if u face any further problems
