Question about Dell Inspiron 9400 Notebook

Fast overheating inspiron 9400

Hi,
i got a dell inspiron 9400 17'' laptop (pentium dual core 2x2ghz, 2gb ram, 80gb hdd, geforce 7900GS and windows vista premium), i bought it 1 year ago refurbished via ebay and its around 2 years old.
After running low on the battery while playing a game and the normal automatic shutdown (like hibernate mode) the start button got pushed 3 times (to less patience) while restarting the laptop, now connected to 220v currency. It started after a while and came up like after a shutdown. After probably 10min everything froze, the screen turned black and i had to shut it down by pushing the start button.
Now i can start it, but its getting really hot unnormally fast in the area around the two fans and in the center of the body, its completely stuck with black screen, hdd still working (indicated by its little signal light), the screen is flashing once or twice a minute to a different black and the only thing that works is the start button to shut it down.
Is there any explanation for this problem and a suggestion what i could do, cuz i can still run it for a little while before its getting hot.
Thanks alot.

Sincerely,
Jan Paul Eichel

This sounds like the system has glitched. Do a system repair with your recovery or operating system disc. This should clear the glitch, get it back up and running, and cure the overheating problem. Try this and get back to me if there are any issues.

Maybe you have enough video memory, but the way your video card processes all the graphics is less than enough to what SIMS 3 requires.

Please take a look at the sims 3 requirements and read the review about your laptop below.

EA has released the minimum system requirements for The Sims 3, which is out on February 20.

The specs, which emerged on site Gaming Today, show both desktop and laptop minimum requirements, though it should bestressed that the game probably won't run like butter on these rigs.

This is Situation Publishing Ltd. review:

With the advent of Intel's Core 2 Duo processors we're at lastbeginning to see the kind of power and portability that was beingclaimed, somewhat optimistically, back in the early days of notebookcomputing. Not one to miss out, Dell has rolled out its Core 2 Duobased Inspiron 6400...The 6400, like so much of the Dell range, comes in a variety ofuser-defined guises so bear this in mind when it comes to theperformance numbers and features I'll be making reference to. Indeed,in the time we've had the notebook, a Dell special offer has upped thememory to 2GB from the two 512MB modules of DDR 2 SDRAM featured in ourversion.

Our particular model also came equipped with Intel's impressive newmobile Core 2 Duo processor, the T7200, which ticks along at 2.0GHz offa 667MHz frontside bus. 4MB of shared L2 cache helps speed things alongtoo. Like the entire mobile range of Core 2 Duo processors it operatesat between 1.0375V and 1.3V and runs comparatively cool for its speed.
Furthermore, our test unit arrived with an ATI Mobility Radeon X1400graphics chip and not the X1300 currently offered on Dell's website asstandard for all but the most basic version of the 6400. The X1400upgrade will set you back around £47 and is probably worth the extramoney seeing as the X1300 combined with the 15.4in WSXGA+ screen willnot be compatible with Windows Vista. In addition all models - again, except the basic one - now come equipped with an 8x dual-layer DVD°R/RWdrive. The hard disk is a Samsung 120GB SATA unit which should fend offobsolescence over the life of the notebook

VerdictWith a base price - for the T7200 Core 2 Duo - of £789 inc. VAT andshipping, the Inspiron 6400 is an excellent and affordable route intothe Core 2 Duo world. It has all the credentials to be a dependablemultimedia companion with its great screen, comprehensive connectivityand decent processing power. But be aware it's neither exciting to lookat nor to game on!

Best of luck
