I just installed two front speakers, a DVD, receiver, and a subwoofer.
Sony Speakers SS-MB 150H
Sony DVD--DVP NC625
Panasonic Receiver-HE75K
Panasonic Subwoofer--SB WA100
Should there be sound coming from the subwoofer itself?
Or does it direct sound back through the other 2 speakers?
I can hear some thumping sounds but no actual music comes from the
subwoofer.
Right now I have the 2 speakers to the side of the TV and the subwoofer off
to the left about 10 feet. Should they all be together? I didn't choose to
have rear speakers because I don't want the problem of getting them wired.
What settings should I have the knobs of the subwoofer set at for normal
operation?

and that will send more bass through the sub

(who wishes he could play his sub louder, but thanks to thin walls,
cannot)

No they do not, nor should not, be ALL together. The mains should not be
near each other. The sub isn't quite as critical.

Basically, the crossover, or frequency knob should be about 80hz. This
usually ends up about halfway, between the lowest setting and the highest
setting on this knob.
The volume should be set equally as loud as the sound coming from your main
speakers.
This is hard to judge sometimes. I have a sound meter, but you can get
reasonably close by turning the subwoofers frequency knob up to the highest
frequency number and adjusting the volume knob on the subwoofer to the point
at which it sounds equally as loud as your mains AT THE LISTENING position.
Then turn the sub frequency to about 80 Hz.
This is a rough guide.
