Question about Microtek ScanMaker 4800 Flatbed Scanner

1 Answer

Scanner and software are frozen

I'm having an awful time with my Microtek Scanmaker 4800. I am using Windowns XP, and I have been running this scanner with Windows XP for a long time without many problems. However, lately, if I click on the icon to run the scanner, the program opens a tab at the bottom of my screen and then freezes. I have to CTRL ALT DELETE to close the program, and then I am prompted to send an error message that says, "You chose to end the nonresponsive program, FILESCAN MFC Application This program is not responding. Please tell Microsoft about this problem". If I try to run the scanner manually with the buttons on the scanner, it is also frozen and does not work at all. All of the lights are lit up on the scanner, so I know it's plugged in properly. This scanner has been working well for years on this same computer and OS. This problem randomly started a week ago. I downloaded Service Pack 3 for Windows thinking it might help, but it didn't help at all. (That actually created a problem with my speakers which I fixed through this forum. I'm hoping someone will be able to help me with my scanner now - I use it a lot and feel lost without it.) Thanks for any help you can offer!

Hi, thanks for responding. I removed and re-installed the software. I still have the same freezing problem after the re-install. Now I have an icon on my desktop that says "Microtek Scanner Configuration". I clicked on this icon, and I receive an error message that reads "Scanner Not Found! Check connection." I unplugged and then plugged back in the cord from both the scanner and the computer, and I am still receiving the "Scanner Not Found! Check Connection" error message. If you have any ideas about this, please let me know. Thanks!

Microtek Scanmaker 4800 does not work on Vista no drivers all xp. How can you get scanner working?

I really you cannot use this Scanner for Vista, only before Vista came out there's no Driver Freeware available yet or the Microtek didn't not provide the driver freeware for this.
I suggest you to install it with Windows XP, it's better on Windows XP and don't need to install in Windows Vista, it's no use on it.
Or also you just buy a new one ready for Windows Vista scanner.
Provided that the Microtek didn't yet give a driver for this then install it where it is compatible with.

Good luck!

I need a copy of Manual and CD for Microtek ScanMaker 4700

I just downloaded the CD for my Microtek ScanMaker 4800 from Driverscollection.com. I'm sure you can either download the correct one from them for your scanner, but if not, try the 4800 version. It came complete with the driver and the controller software, though it might not have any third party software with it. Seems to me it was about 49MB in size. The filename was SW576bml.zip. Their file ID was 19703. Seems like a good site for driver downloads.

First thing to do is un install and reinstall the software. Then consider - what other software could be running the could conflict[A graphics program for example]is to try another software for scanning if available. The other thing to consider is the age of the scanner- if it is from the DOS era-95/8/ME- then it will like as not not run- there is a firmware problem. Scanners have a controller chip - DOS era devices are looking for DOS commands - and they are getting NTFS commands- various makers like Microtek tried driver fudges- but they did not work. It has to be a NTFS scanner for NTFS commands.
