Question about Sharp Televison & Video

5 Answers

I recently purchased a flat-screen Sharp TV with a built in DVD. I have tried everything to get audio, but cannot. The bar moves when you press the volume but no sound. I've tried the regular remote for the TV (I have Verizon FIOS), a universal remote and also purchased a SHARP remote-didn't have one because this was purchased at a discount off the floor. Can you help. Thank you. Michele

Dear sir/madam,

first - try the volume on the TV itself, just in case the volume buttons on the remote aren't working. Also make sure there are no audio cables plugged into the jacks on the back of the TV.

If your TV has a setup mode (usually found on the remote control), go into the setup and check the audio settings. It's possible that it's set to send the audio to the audio output jacks instead of the speakers. This setup would typically be used in a home theater environment where the sound is sent to an audio system with it's own speakers, and therefore the TV speakers aren't used.
If it is, then change it to speakers instead of "line out" or something similar.

thanks
good luck

Well, if you just purchased it and are sure that it isn't muted, on SAP, or MONO. Then I would just take it back to where you got it and exchange it for a different one which would be the easiest option. Let me know of anything else that you need or have questions on

good luck

First unplug TV power cord for two minutes to reset it.
Try pressing the mute button on the remote, if this does not work try plugging external speakers to test sound and to check if the external audio speakers are working and if a stuck audio jack socket is cause of the problem.
If it still does not work the TV is faulty, in this case see if you can get a refund or a replacement, and check your guaranty terms.

What i believe is that the audio cable inside the tv is not connected or may have been bad due to this reason you are not getting the real audio but you can see the bar moves when you increase or decrease the volume from the remote control get the unit opened and checked.

What kind of audio system do I need to purchase for this set. The speakers are just terrible.

I changed my audio equalizer setting to "POP" and I got much more pronounced separation. Also, make sure the SURROUND is set to "ON" in your settings or simply hit the SURROUND button on the remote that came with the TV.

The "AUDIO OUT" jacks on this set apparently only work when the input is set to "TV". I wanted to hook a couple of external speakers up as well and found they would not work when hooked up to HDMI to a cable box. I mean how many people by a large flat screen like this if they don't want to view HD? Like about zero! The AUDIO OUT works only when TV is selected for INPUT

A work around is to use the headphone jack and hook a couple of external speakers up to that.

If you want to go for a higher end home theater sound bar system so that you can route both DVD and CABLE box through it via multiple HDMI's you can choose from SONY, Phillips etc.

I wrote to Sharp about the AUDIO OUT issue. It's rediculous that they only work when TV is selected for input. But you might try using the heaphone jack alternative if you find a set of speakers that sound good to you. Hope this helps.

Unfortunately I have to ask where the red and white audio cables are connected on the tv because there is no mention of that in the problem. There is only one place where they should be connected and it is on the top left where it says analog audio out. See page 10 of the manual.

To make sure the sound bar itself is working instead of connecting it to the television connect it to one of your devices like your cable box/satellite tv box or dvd player. It would go right into the red and white output hole on the device.

No audio, no video but program guide displays

1. You should check you cabling connections at the satellite receiver to the TV.
2. Check the mode you are in on the HDMI cable
3. Your HDMI should have 3 modes in the set up screen (HDMI 1,2,3)

Flat screen to dvd connection help!

It depends on the TV.

On my Phillips TV this is switchable via the TV setup menu, and you get no sound with HDMI unless you change that setting.

The reason it's switchable is that the HDMI input is usually common with one of the component-video inputs (AV3 on mine). (cost saving move)

Thus if the menu is set to hdmi, then the audio goes thru hdmi. If it's set to 'component' then it goes thru the RCA patch cable.

If your TV is a SHARP LC-45GD5U,
Try using the reset buttons on the back of the TV. It should be below your digital audio output port.
If that doesn't work, ( this is only a guess) the power supply for the LCD screen may have burned out.
