Hi-

Try to activate the wireless card from device manager on your laptop and You will need to enter the WEP key during the configuration of the wireless
client to successfully connect. If you do not have it written down or
recorded elsewhere, you can get it by connecting to the configuration page
for you wireless router (connect by inputing the IP address of your router
in the URL of your browser.) The easiest way to do this is by connecting
the laptop to be configured to the router via a cable, go to the wireless
admin page and then copy/paste the key during the wireless NIC
configuration.

You can find info on wireless configuration in this link, click HERE

hope this helps

Do you have a DSL or CABLE internet ?

If you have a DSL connection, your DSL username & password is needed when configuring the router (WRT54G).

Otherwise, just reset the router.

On older LinkSys routers, the default username is "admin and the default password is blank ." On newer Linksys routers, both the default username and the default password are set to "admin."

If you changed the router password and you lost it you will need to reset the router to default settings.

If you wireless network is already configured, you do not need to access to router settings to connect a new laptop. In this case you will probably need wireless network encryption key. If your wireless network is protected (as it should be) you will be asked to input the key in new laptop, to connect to wi fi network.

If your wireless network is secured you need to have a wireless security key like WEP or WPA key sometimes its compose or numbers and letter, The password admin is use to access the router setup page when you type in http://192.168.1.1 and there it will ask you for username and password just leave the user blank and type admin for the password and you can also check the security that you need to your laptop , Just go to Wireless tab and look for a sub tab that say Wireless Secuity and ther you can find the needed security key for the laptop..

Hope that helps.........

Don't need to reset the router, if it has a wireless security on it follow the steps that I gave you and access the router setup http://192.168.1.1 on the working computer and use admin for the password and get the wireless security from that page..

You only need to reset the router if you cannot access the router page because the password is not working...

    Good luck..........

Linksys router password

To reset the Linksys back to the default settings - Press and hold the pinhole RESET button at the back of the router with the power ON for 20 secs. then release the RESET button.
To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the wireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default admin PW (write it down and put it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption to protect your wireless network and Internet from unauthorized access.
Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

I cannot hookup my osx mac computer to the wireless at&t internet service i have set up in my home. The other 3 computers in our home do work (including another mac). We have called at&t tech...

What we really need is more information on the router. Do you know how the other computers connect to the wireless? Do you know if you had to have a password in order to connect? If you never did anything to the Linksys router to set it up, you can login to the router by opening Internet Explorer and browsing to 192.168.1.1. It will ask you for a login name and password. By default the name is blank and the password is "admin". If you look at the wireless settings you should be able to see the wireless settings, like the wireless name (again, by default the name is Linksys), what kind (if any) of encryption is used, etc.

Hi I have a netopia 3341 router DSL with ethernet hookup and a linksys wrk54g wireless g. When I hook up my desktop it has XP on it, I get nothing. The linksys was given to me and worked at its previous...

ok so the wireless router you got given, was that simply unplugged from it's previous home and then plugged in at yours?
In order for it to work (to connect your pc) it will need to be reset back to factory and then reconfigured..
It should have some type of small almost pin sized hole on the back or bottom of it, with the unit plugged in, press this with a pin or paper clip in and hold for 2 to 3 seconds then let go, do this around 10 times and it will definatly be back to factory settings.
Once you have done that it needs to be plugged in with a cable to desktop or laptop to configure it (set up broadcast name and password) BUT you need to know the ip address of the device (normally 10.1.1.1 for wireless)
Once it is directly pluged in to computer with ethernet cable, Open your Internet exploier.
Type in the address bar: http://10.1.1.1
IF this is the correct ip for the device it will open a page for you to configure router...If nothing opens try these:
http://192.168.1.1
http://192.168.0.1
http://192.168.1.254
If it asks for user name and password these are normally either:
User: admin
Password: (leave blank)
OR
User: admin
Password:admin

once your in, your looking to set up wireless..

Let me know how you get on

Hello. I have a linksys wireless wireless g access point with SES. I want to add another laptop to this connecction but have lost my wep key password. Pls help!

On the back of the router there's a very small reset button where you stick a paper clip or a small pen tip in.Insert it in there and hold for about 10 secs or until the green led lights starts to flash. Once you do this it will reset the routers password to default, which is: user id: admin, pwd: password.

You may have to reconfigure the other laptop again or recreate the wireless connection.

Have wireless network at home trying to add my sons laptop to network but have forgot security key/passphrase which laptop is asking for

All you need to do is log into the router usually with the pc that is attached to the router (wired) by typing into the run command box http://192.168.1.1 Depending on the brand of router you'll either put in admin and no password or admin for the password or admin and password for password. Once in the router go to the wireless security tab and you can see the network key. Hope this helps

I have a linksys WRT546 wireless G router someone gave me. I want to connect it to my laptop which is wireless ready and compatible. What type of software or other directions do I need to make it work...

You don't need any extra software.

Connect ethernet cable between PC and router
On back of router may be a IP number like 192.186.1.1
Open internet explorer and type in this number
It may ask you for a password - try no password or 'admin'
If you cannot guess the password becuase it has been set to an unknown word. reset the router using hidden button on back.
Once you have a menu, use the wizard to input your ISP login name and password.
To set up wireless, set an SSID (any name - e.g. fred).
Try to get wireless working between laptop and router.
Once it works, set a WEP key in the router and computer for better security.

I have a linksys wireless G router. My exhusband put a password on it and I do not know the password. My wireless card on my laptop went out and I had to buy a new one. Now I need to have the password in...

I'm guessing you don't have the key to join the wireless network. If you have an ethernet cord you can hook your laptop directly into one of the numbered ports into the back of your router. After it's hooked up open a web browser such as internet explorer or safari. In the address bar type http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 and a password dialog should pop up and the default router username is admin and password is admin. If thosed don't work try either admin blank or blank admin. After that you should have a page with tabs at the top click on the one that says wireless, then there should be a sub-tab called security that has the wireless key there.

If the admin password doesn't work there is a small red button on the back of the router that you can press with a pen and hold down for 15 seconds to reset the router to factory defaults that means no wireless password and that the wireless netwok will go back to the default name "linksys" . Though if you choose this route you might look into putting a password on your wireless depending on how crowded your neighborhood is. If you need any more help drop me a line on this question.

I hooked my Belkin-G-Plus-Mimo-39000 to my laptop. Got it working, now I wanted to get it on my Desktop. its installed, but its asking for a NETWORK KEY. What to do from here.

The Network Key is the method for encrypting a transmission on a wireless network. If you originally setup your wireless router you should know this key. Otherwise, contact whomever setup your wireless router and ask what the key may be. You will want to ask whether it is WEP or WPA as well.

To reset, you can clear the key if you can login to the router, otherwise holding the reset button while the router is unplugged will clear the key (and all the other settings so this might be dangerous). To clear it, hold the button for at least ten seconds.

After a clear, you will need to setup the router again. Consult your documentation if you have it. If it is a netgear or linksys, use IP 192.168.1.1 User=Admin password=Administrator, if you have a D-Link, try IP 192.168.0.1 and User=Admin password=Admin. If it is something else, try either of the previous combos. (unless it is a Cisco, then it is 10.0.0.2 User=Administrator password=Cisco).

Hope this helps, even a little.
