It doesn't exactly float like most cleaner heads do. There is a hose under the machine that attaches to the brush housing. That hose acts like a spring to hold the soleplate flush to the carpet, and it gets teased into place. You can either replace that hose, or sometimes just giving it about a half turn will temporarily correct the problem.

Where is the brush belt on a dyson 07 upright vacuum?

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

The type of belt mechanism will depend on which model of DC07 you own. If you have a DC07 machine without the brush control feature, the user-replaceable belt is located within the cleaner head:
http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc07/dc07-standard/maintaining-your-dyson-machine/change-the-belt1/belt-fitting-preparation

However, if your DC07 includes the brush control feature (you should see the Carpet/Hard floor dial on the cleaner head), your machine will use a clutch mechanism with belts engineered to last for the lifetime of the machine in normal use.

If you have a DC07 with brush control and would like some help with it, please contact us directly by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Beater bar doesn't turn and it makes a loud noise

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC07. Your machine's brush control system is designed to make a ratcheting sound to warn you if the brushbar is jammed. The easiest way to check the cleaner head for obstructions is to follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=4&product=DC07-SY-HEPA_US

Hopefully this should resolve your issue, but if the sound continues after you've ensured the brushbar is free of threads and hairs, please get in touch with us directly so we can provide further assistance. You can call us free on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Kind regards,

My dyson animal works great in upright and reclined position, but I don't get suction with the extension power hose (or whatever it's called -- the thing that can take attachments). The hose...

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC07 Animal. If it seems to be picking up well from the cleaner head, but not through the hose, it's likely you do have a blockage in the cleaner. Although I note that you've checked the hose itself already, you may find an obstruction elsewhere. The easiest way to make sure you haven't missed anything is to follow the steps shown in our online guide:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=114&product=DC07-SY-HEPA_US

By locating and clearing the blockage, you should be able to resolve the issue without further assistance. However, if you've tried this and are still concerned, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you, and recommend the best course of action. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Kind regards,

Power switch won't stay on. If I hold it down the power stays on. As soon as I let up, it stops.

Most likely the ratchet mechanism on the switch is faulty.

Switches are available if you search on eBay for a few pounds, and if you've reasonable DIY skills and tools, it's fairly easy to do.

Have a look at http://www.dysonmedic.com/DC07%20Folder/DC07%20Motor%20change.html which has some great info.
