Question about Computers & Internet
When I started my pc i got the message " bad bios checksum. starting bios recovery. as I no longer have my Asus P4V8X-X support cd. I went to the asus website and downloaded the latest bios for this board but when i put The disc into the pc i get the message reading file P4V8X-X.rom then P4V8X-X not found. what am i doing wrong.
You mention a utility that i should download from the same site where do i find it and do you know what its called
First of all check your battery.measure it with multimetre.if the vol. shows below 3 volt.replace it. if your problem is not solved..
Secondly try update bios.
The latest bios file is available from the related vender site.under drivers files it is available.download it.
You have to update it on dos mode.
start booting from a bootable floppy.point to the latest bios files u have downloaded.update it.Don't switch off the pc.This process should be done carefully.

In the disk you burned, the bios can't read a zip file, the file needs to be extracted and as far as I remember you need to use a diskette instead of a cd. but I will look into it now.

You can get the bios from here
Get the 1008 version
its under Bios and 3rd entry, all os version 1008
File is in zip format, needs to be extracted.
the rom file inside needs to be placed in a diskette.
Comment by Ekse, posted on Aug 07, 2008 Diskette or if you can get the bios to read a cd then that is fine also. Comment by Ekse, posted on Aug 07, 2008 if the setup is looking for a file named as
it may be required to rename the PV8XX08.rom to P4V8X-X.rom
But im not perfectly sure what you are trying todo or why it is asking for it. il have to look into this more. Comment by Ekse, posted on Aug 07, 2008 As I suspected, BestDarnGood linked us the manual and the correct page about the problem. it confirms that the file has to be renamed and placed in a floppy.
