Need to open dx6490

I need to open my kodak dx6490. I hve removed all visable screws. I saw on one of your post that this camera has hidden screws.
Do you know anything about replacement parts for the dial and joystick on the back.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Hello, I work on these DX6940 cameras and can tell you that you are between a rock and a hard place when it comes to the small joystick. This is a major point of failure on these cameras and you will not find a good replacement unit, Chinese made low quality and no replacements available. You need two cameras to make one good one !!!
GOOD LUCK

SOURCE: Help! I've dropped my Kodak

Sounds like you will need to send it in for service. Get an estimate as it might be a better spend of your money to just buy a newer camera.

SOURCE: Mode dial on my Kodak DX6490 camera is hard to turn!

dissmantle the back case (watch for 1 hidden screw under rubber covers), lift plate on back of lcd screen, remove screw on back of dial, clean where it sits on both sides (most probably from a liquid spill...tea, coffee...) , apply some lube with a cottonbud ore a bit of tisue and rebuild.
hope this helps

a jpeg is not a standard photo file. You want to set it for jpg. Take the USB hub out of the connection. Connect the camera or card reader directly to the USB port.

The joystick on my KodaK DX6490 has come loose. Can it be fixed? I can't navigate the directions.it feels as if a spring has gone underneath it.

This is exactly what happened with my DX6490. The underlying switch is only attached to the PCB with 6 or so tiny solder pads and these tend to give way after a time. It can be fixed although v. fiddly. You need to open the camera body up (screws and brute force, see previous solutions) and carefully release bits and pieces until you have access to the board. The switch can be resoldered if you have a tiny enough iron, very steady hands (use a rest) and a magnifying glass - or know someone who can do this kind of thing.

Need to take apart DX6490

Hi,
As you told that , the camera fell on sand, Its highly unlikely the sand would inside the camera, because the camera case is air tight. There could be more to the camera problem then just sand.
Refer to the following link from the product manual

Purchased new memory card. camera screen said to format card, camera will not format card please isnsert another. new card is kodak 8gb sdhc. it works in a different kodak camera

The DX6490 works with MMC and SD cards. While an SDHC card will fit into the slot, it is electronically incompatible and will not work. Some Kodak cameras can use SDHC cards, but the DX6490 is not one of them. You need to go with SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

How to install fisheye lens and adapter on kodak dx6490. Do I have to remove existing AF lens

No, you do not remove the existing lens. You need to purchase a lens adapter tube that fits around the existing lense. This adapter threads onto the inside bezel on the camera at the base of the lens assembly. Additional converter lenses and filters fit onto this. My adapter has 55mm threading for filters.

My camera Kodak DX6490 need to repair..

Know no solution, just, that is, what my camera did when it fell, the zoom lence was zoomed out, now it won't retract. Must have a crack also like yours. I took the back off and tried to see if any cables were loose, none were so I know it's in the front area of the camera. The zoom probably. My LCD screen doesn't come on either. But the camera it turns on and lights up the selection icon that I have it on. Did you get yours fixed? Sorry to post on the solution when not a solution. But, I didn't see a reply button, to type a regular reply.I did call the Kodak company and they said to buy another camera would be cheaper than getting mine sent to them to be fixed.

I can't transfer pictures from my camera to my computer.

By far the best solution is to buy a memory card reader, If your PC is usb2 you will be stagered by the increase in speed.
if there are pictures on the internal memory you can use the copy feature to move the images to a memory card.
If you dont have a memory card get one also, the DX6490 will take upto 2gb cards, if in the uk mymemory has 2gb cards for 7.99ukp..

A couple of things to check is that the camera is the only USB device attached to the PC as some devices interfear with each other. and you may want to try another usb cable although its a kodak's own cable type so your unlikely to hve one spare from something else.
Beyond that, try reseting the camera (although im not sure if internal memory pictures will be lost) I dont have my test unit available and cant remember where/iff the dx6490 has a restet option, the other way to reset is remove the main battery for a few hours, if the clock is wrong when you re insert the battery its reset...

best of luck
