Phillps tv problem

I have a phillips LCD TV, now for some reason it has decided to start changing channels by itself, I have put a cliam in through my insurence company but they are keen to check if this is a common problem and happens a lot, or can be resolved via some of the setting options?? i dont belive it can and that the tv needs repair/replace, can i have you opinions on this please??

42" Plasma Flat screen TV - recently problem started with a solid black background over top half of screen during viewing (comes & goes). A few days ago, when TV was turned on, green light came on then changed to flashing red light in 4 signal flashing pattern, but no audio or video. Phoned Philps Cust Serv and was told to download system upgrade on USB but it did not work. Philips referred us to Service Repairs who charged $85 for coming to home and without even opening the TV, said it will cost approx $1000 for "boards" plus his service, and he could not guarantee the TV would work.

You can try to go back to factory settings.
After that disconnect the power from the TV and wait for about an or two hours. Then put on the power and try to make the installation complete from the start.

not 100% sure on the problem you are having but i will give a rundown on how it should be set up,

1.) there is usually a TV ariel style 'T' Junction just put this inbetween the signal from your tv arial and the tv itself or if you dont have an arial just plug it straight into the TV.

2.) make sure your tv is set to its analogue tv mode, NOT the digital tv mode as this will not work

3.) Once on this mode it should be good to go, if you still cant see the signal change the tv channel, it could be up to channel 9, if i remember rightly thats where mine used to sit,

Hope this helped :)

I have had similar experiences. I have a VCR sitting near the television. I found that if I keep the VCR turned on then the TV stops changing channels by itself. If the VCR is turned off, then it starts again. Weird, but it worked for some reason.

We have a similar problem when changing channels/surfing, the TV will begin to power cycle, until you unplug THE CABLE TV input, then it will turn on again and stay on as you rehook the cable and change channels....till it decides to do it again, DTV channels seem to trip it up, but not sure....if I leave it on the same channel it will run for days. Yep and the cable TV is grounded outside

The DVD player may have multiple output formats that can be displayed. Sounds like you have the composite output selected when you have the component output selected on the DVD player. Check the menu options on the DVD player and confirm they match the way you have the player connected

I will tell you that westinghouse is the worst company among other brands. If you have warranty, return it and buy a sony or panasonic with a little extra money. It will help you later from buying another TV that is also as crappy as westinghouse's.
