The easy touch bar on the top of the keyboard area is not working and i have done in and tried to do a start up activation where it didn't start and then did one where it did hoping to restore it but it has had no effect. tried to do a restore for a day before it started not working and didn't work. the laptop is a month and a half old and is still under warranty.

Hello Jack, I believe that the symbol means that your number lock is turned on. The way it got turned was at least two ways that I can think of. 1. The computer's BIOS is configured to turn it on when powered up. 2. You may have done this yourself by accident. The Num lock is also activated by a function key combination on the keyboard. To turn the lock on or off you locate the FN key at the bottom left side of your keyboard. Now on the top row of keys locate a shadowy outline of the words NUM LOCK. Press and hold the FN key and tap the NUM LOCK key. The light should go out. If there are further problems please return and post them here.

The reason for this happening is that the metal bar under your spacebar is not properly attached. It's time consuming to properly fix it, but it's an easy fix at that.

All you need to do is remove your spacebar and metal bar (shaped somewhat like a tall C, if held sideways). On the bottom of the spacebar will be approximately 2-3 small clips in which the metal bar will snap into. Once snapped into place, you will want to look at the area where the spacebar goes. There should be two small clips at each end. With the metal bar clipped into the spacebar, you want to place the "ends" of the metal bar under the clips on the keyboard and very carefully place the spacebar into the hole on the keyboard and snap it into place. Now test it out and it should work fine. If not, it's likely that the metal bar came out from under the keyboard clips. The annoying part is snapping the spacebar into place without having the metal piece come out from under those clips, so you may need to perform this task a few times.

yes, There are screws on the back side of your laptop that do not remove but do loosen and release the keyboard. release the keyboard and gentely get keyboard to pop up and reseat connection to the keyboard to the main board. normally on laptops, keyboardsare able to lift where the f keys are and then slide in the direction of space bar to f keys. this needs to be done slowly with ease

It may be that the default settings for the keyboard have been set to a different language/regional area.

You could try changing it and see if it works.

If you wish to change the keyboard layout, you can do this by right clicking on your taskbar and select "language bar". When this is done, right click on the keyboard symbol and select "settings".

Alternatively, go start>control panel>regional settings> and change it there.

Seems like the synaptic touch pad has lost its configuration or got a little whacky.
Go to the control panel, and find the program for the touch pad.
There, try to redefine the areas for the scroll bar action.

Go to control panel> sound speech....>sound and aud...> uncheck mute.

to activate the soft keys on ur keyboard, install the keyboard drives which came with the the computer.
